Re: Failure Ripping Terminator 3 Blu-Ray

FWIW, I had no trouble using MakeMKV approximately 1.60 ripping US T3 [commercial release BD] on a Win7 x64 system with a Lite-On drive. Probably this doesn't help, but it's a data point...

Re: M2TS with Multi-Channel LPCM not playing in WMP12 x64!!!

One note:

I don't believe the problem is with "LPCM in files made with MakeMKV" but rather "LPCM in .MKV containers made by any software." In other words, it has nothing to do with MakeMKV but is a limitation in most players in dealing with LPCM when in an MKV container.

Re: Problem - 'unknown file format'

Some devices / software are picky about what types of video or sound they can play, and they may also be picky about the container. So, something that plays fine in an m2TS may not play OK if it's in an MKV, or vice versa. Also, I've found lots of software/players barf at PCM for some reason. Looks ...

Re: Problem - 'unknown file format'

I recommend using a free utility called MediaInfoGUI and having it report the details about the video in the file. Installed, it lets you right click any media file to bring up a window with the details.

MakeMKV simply copies the streams into an MKV file container... it doesn't convert.

Re: Vicky Christina Barcelona - NO AUDIO

@Marc_G Hi! I've played PCM audio titles ripped by MakeMKV without a problem on my system But have you successfully played one containing 3 channel PCM? Hmmm... I don't recall the details. Sorry. Maybe 3 channel is strange enough to cause a problem. I've never had sound that I couldn't play, one wa...

Re: Vicky Christina Barcelona - NO AUDIO

For what it may be worth, I've played PCM audio titles ripped by MakeMKV without a problem on my system (a PC)... but only when using the correct filter to do so. My regular Windows Media Center gave me problems, but if I played it in MPC-HC or used AC3Filter to decode on the fly (playing in WMC), t...

Re: Nat Geo- Journey to the Edge of the Universe

This was interesting so I borrowed a copy to examine (no worries, I'm not making any illegal copies of things). Turns out the video is indeed 1080i (as in interlaced, not 1080p) encoded in VC-1. That is a VERY difficult combination of resolution/encoding to find a decoder for. I played it just fine ...

Re: Nat Geo- Journey to the Edge of the Universe

I looked into it... it turns out that there are numerous reports of trouble playing this file. Something about a level three VC-1 encode. Generally, PowerDVD 9, 10 play it fine. MPC-HC x86 will also do it if configured to use the matroska splitter, according to one forum. So, for those following thi...

Re: Nat Geo- Journey to the Edge of the Universe

Have you analyzed the MKV created to see what sort of video is supposedly in there? I use MediaInfo GUI ; after it is installed just right click on any media file and choose the media info option. It's possible that there is an unusal video encode in there. I've had this trouble once in a while (Bac...

New SCSI error starting in 1.63 version

Hi Mike et al, Since updating to version 1.63 I've been seeing this error, grabbed from the logs and onscreen display when ripping DVD (not bluray). It has happened on 2 discs and is the same when using 2 different hard drives (one is a bluray capable drive, the other is a plain vanilla DVD drive): ...

Re: How can I set the bitrate of the movie?

You can't. MakeMKV does a direct dump of the video stream without editing it. It is focused on making a full quality rip of the disc, allowing you to pick audio/subtitle tracks. It doesn't process the audio/video in any way. Use Handbrake or some other product to compress the output if you like. Marc

Re: Death Race 2000 (Old movie from 1975)

Mike, Mine was the DVD. I sent the .ifo files to your support email a few days ago to document it. And indeed, the one I had trouble with is the US region DVD available on Amazon (Roger Corman's Cult Classics edition). I find it remarkable that both the DVD and BD versions exhibit a similar failure,...

Re: Death Race 2000 (Old movie from 1975)

Thanks for the offer! The disc plays fine; I made a complete .iso of it using another product so there's no scratch problem. It's an interesting story really. I didn't realize it was a recent re-release until your prior message made me go look it up. I've wanted to see a copy of this movie for a whi...

Widescreen 1.85:1

It's the Roger Corman's Cult Classics version. Recently re-released.

Death Race 2000 (Old movie from 1975)

Hi Mike, I'm about to send the zipped .ifos to you from Death Race 2000 (the movie from 1975, not the more recent Death Race). Not sure what the DVD release date was, but it's the US commercial release. Got a bunch of debug codes and such, and the output MKV was about 10% of the anticipated file siz...
