is there anyway I can check to see if my existing rips have hard-coded subtitles, so I know not to re-do that film! True hardcoded/burned subtitles are actually part of the video images. Therefore, the only way I know of to determine with certainty whether particular subtitles are hardcoded/burned,...

They may exist at the same sites that reproduce DVD "jackets" - but don't you already have the chapter inserts that came with the DVDs when you purchased them?

Seems to indicate that your original BluRay disc is either dirty or physically damaged.MEDIUM ERROR:ID CRC OR ECC ERROR'
Try cleaning the disc. If the problem remains, return the original BluRay disc to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement.

Hi!
MakeMKV is perfectly capable of ripping your original BluRay disc by itself, without using any other software (such as DVDFab or AnyDVD).
I'd suggest you try using ONLY MakeMKV to rip your original, commercial BluRay disc...
