playback isn't ripping, the fact you can watch them does not mean they are defect free.

Could be the quality of the disc, or perhaps your drive is starting to fail and these are the symptoms of that.
Hard to tell unless you can narrow it down to when it happens precisely.

The price inside the US is $50 + local taxes. Avangate charge extra outside of the US to cover the cost of conversion fee's, as well as local tax laws as they get charged tax twice (once at time of sale, then again after transferring their cash back to the US). this is a symptom of a poorly pressed disc. Swap it for a new one.

I have always tried to use SMplayer it has never given me a problem. Perhaps you can try it and report back.

The is no copy protection on Blu-ray that causes read errors.

Not a MakeMKV issue, your drive is telling you it can't read the disc:
Poorly pressed disc or dying drive.

Rerun the command and make sure your packages are up to date. I had a similar issue to you and realised my dependencies needed updating.
