Re: DVD Rip Speeds?

This may be relevant https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=139366#p139366 Basically the highest average read speed you can expect is about 12MB/sec which is obviously quite slow, so I would agree with dcoke22 that multiple drives is the way to go. I'd recommend Asus DRW-24D5MT (around $30 ...

Re: Does MakeMKV support CSS-MR discs?

Well I messaged the seller of this expensive copy on eBay and theirs is single layer too, so the image quality can't be better than what I've got (which is poor, indicating bootleg). Meanwhile there are reviews on Amazon saying the image quality is good... https://i.ibb.co/wQ98xf1/a.png (which is ir...

I have personally received bootlegs of a few Warner Archive titles. I reported the sellers, but nothing happened to them and they continue to sell bootlegs on various marketplaces.
Oh no, maybe that's what I received. How did you determine they were bootlegs tho?

Bootlegs of the DVD-R Warner Archive discs are rampant, because it’s much harder to prove when you were expecting a DVD-R to begin with.
Damn, is this something you have witnessed or are you just speculating? Sincere question.

Re: Does MakeMKV support CSS-MR discs?

Is it possible the files online are someone's up-rez of the low quality version on DVD? Definitely not. I did some A-B screenshot comparisons on the same frames and there is a ton of macroblocking on my copy and none in the channel BT version. The BT version has been transcoded to h264 so even afte...

Re: MakeMKV Not Detecting Files On Some Discs

I guess when you select "play all" it's just reading from a playlist to manually splice the intro/outro around certain timecodes in the marathon vob at runtime. But it sounds like you're already aware of this, so the question is why would other software give you the option you want, given ...

Re: Does MakeMKV support CSS-MR discs?

I'm now just noticing the seller's listing page says "region all" but everywhere else it mentions it's only region 1. So I must have gotten a different version. Maybe someone exploited the fact it's hard to tell apart from a bootleg and just made a bootleg? Found another article where it s...

Re: Does MakeMKV support CSS-MR discs?

Well I got the discs and they are purple DVD-R's single layer too. Given how bad the print quality is on the cover art you'd be easily mistaken thinking these were indeed bootleg copies, but apparently Warner Bros really did do this silly "burn on demand" scheme back in 2012. Anyway all th...

Re: Does MakeMKV support CSS-MR discs?

Well I ordered it just now, we'll see what happens when it arrives.

I can see someone has successfully ripped it elsewhere so I'm betting it's possible.

Re: Does MakeMKV support CSS-MR discs?

But I somehow doubt, that they would have to sell DVD players which are able to play these things. If you read the videohelp thread it says Warner Bros hacked the DVD-R spec to make it only play on "play only" devices, and here is the back of the case https://i.ibb.co/Qn31d9T/s-l1600.png

Does MakeMKV support CSS-MR discs?

I was going to buy this DVD but it says in the description the discs are burned using Warner Bros "Media On Demand" (MOD) system which as far as I can tell is where the official distributor burns you a copy onto DVD-R. However I've just read this... these kind of "burn on demand"...

Re: New to MKV and Ripping

There are utilities that let you synchronize one drive with another. For example on Unix/Linux/macOS, rsync . Conceptually, rsync checks the files on the source to see if they exist (or were changed) on the destination. If the source has a new file, rsync copies it to the destination; if the file i...

Re: New to MKV and Ripping

The hard part about redundancy being a manual process is most people don't keep their backups up to date. It is better if redundancy is built in and/or an automatic process. Yep, so what I am doing currently is keeping a file like backup.txt and inside it I'll write something like... Last backup da...

Re: New to MKV and Ripping

My data needs sorta naturally split in such a way that 4 drives can serve them. Also, it is easier to get 4 drives of approximately the same same size. I suppose if my data were different, I might be better served by a pair of 6 drive pools or 4 & 8 drive pools. In any case, 4 has worked for me...

Re: New to MKV and Ripping

Personally, I run TrueNAS Community Edition on some modestly priced Intel hardware. I have 12 hard drives in that box. Those 12 drives are organized into 3 ZFS pools of 4 drives each, each with single disk fault tolerance (this is conceptually like RAID 5 but is not actually RAID 5). One of those p...
