Given that it looks like there's no way I can restore the factory firmware (or even any firmware in the future, is my guess, but we'll see), I bought another drive from Asus and will install that. If I ever need to rip a 4k disc, I'll swap them. :-/

What firmware is currently on the drive?

The LibreDrive Asus 3.10 firmware - or did you want more specific info?
The drive itself reports "3.10".
