Re: MakeMKV 1.7.9 Subtitles in wrong character set on WDTV
There is a way to get a "third opinion" on whether or not the MKV file has corrupted subtitles... Using the "nightly build" version of Handbrake. The NB version can read and burn in subtitles from BD's in MKV files. It won't be fast, but it will show if the MKV file really is the...

Re: Problem with subtitles
Most of what I deal with is anime, and yes, I rip all the subtitle tracks. After they're in an MKV file, I play them with VLC to determine which audio AND subtitle tracks are "right", before processing the file with Handbrake for the media players. Sometimes, the tracks aren't tagged corre...

Re: Chronicle [Blu-Ray] fails to process
MEDIUM ERROR:NO SEEK COMPLETE Means your drive tried to get to a part of the drive, and couldn't find it. Either it didn't actually move to where it thought it did (problem with the drive itself), or, when it got there, it couldn't find what should have been there (problem with the disk). Have you ...

Re: Dragon Ball Season Sets
Uncorrectable errors are coming from the drive, and usually mean either dirty/scratched media or a problem with the drive itself. When I encounter them, I first clean the disk with furniture polish (Pledge is my brand of choice). That usually takes care of the MINOR scratches the relatives put on th...

Re: Windows 8 and / in file paths
That means Win8 is enforcing the access-to-hardware restrictions. My Win7 machines have never complained about this, but I am in the administrator group for them, so it just might be me.
MakeMKV needs direct access to the interface to allow for things like decoding CSS without Windows' permission.

Re: Windows 8 and / in file paths
For Windows NT up through Win7, the operating system itself accepts either / or \ in paths... which is why "/" is an illegal character within a file name. This was for compatibility with Unix programs that might be compiled to run under NT. The limitation on use of / is when you are dealin...

Re: Converting MKV to MP4 in Handbrake - Grey, Pixelated Pre
First recommendation - get a current version of Handbrake. The release version is up to 0.9.8 last I checked. But the "Nightly Build" versions handle BD data MUCH better than the release. Handbrake has a "web optimized" option on generation of MP4 files you might try. I haven't n...

Re: General question about ripping
Yes, I was referring to Handbrake's Nightly Builds. Haven't seen such a thing for MakeMKV! :) The differences between the release and NB version of Handbrake is rather stark, especially if you're working with Bluray. Although I had to stop keeping current with them... Around July, they removed somet...

Re: General question about ripping
A lot depends upon the disk itself. Sometimes, the multiple files are really one set of video scenes, linked together in different ways. Things like deleted scenes, alternate endings, even scenes where the signs in the background are in different languages. As for the encoding time in Handbrake.... ...

Re: Can't Rip Directors Commentary
On some of my BDs and DVDs, there is a separate title that has the commentary audio/subtitle tracks, even though there only seems to be a single video track. That is, there is an "all episodes" track, and an "episode X with commentary" track, but there is only one copy of the vid...

Re: Feature request: don't open output file in exclusive mod
VLC will crash if you try this. It scans the file before playing, and, if it is not complete, it dies.
Opening in exclusive mode is the only SAFE way to do it!

Re: Error with Urusei Yatsura DVDs
There probably aren't a lot of people with access to these DVDs. When I went to buy them, I found the cheapest full set was $1200, or "just" $700 used.

Re: "AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive" Issue
I would guess that the drive is taking up too much current. I've seen this behavior before with a printer; adding a POWERED USB hub between the drive and the computer will probably fix it.

Re: The Stunt Man - Fail To Open
Have you tried setting your minimum title length to something below its current 10 minute value? At least then you can see if it can read the disk; right now, it's rejected everything it finds as being too short. The title lengths look like this is a "features" disk, rather than the main t...
