Unreadable MKV files

I tried converting two different blu ray disks. Both disks produced MKV files for the movies that were unreadable. MKV files for the smaller files on the disk (i.e. trailers) were ripped with no problem. I do not have this problem when ripping regular DVDs. Also, there were no error messages displayed at all.
I'm using the evaluation version (day 2). Version 1.10.5 [win(x64-release)]

"Unreadable" using what for playback?

Different players have different capabilities. Windows Media Player, for example, understands different codecs (audio and video) depending upon the version you have.

VLC from videolan.org is not the "best" player out there anymore, but it does understand most current-generation codecs, and is available for most platforms. Is it playable in VLC?

Doesn't matter which software.
When I rip a blu ray DVD, the larger MKV files (for the movies) cannot be read.
The MKV files for behind the scenes, trailers, etc., work fine.
When I rip a regular DVD, the resulting MKV files are fine.
The only thing that changes is the blu ray DVD.

I just tried ripping the blu ray DVDs again after cleaning them for a third time.
This time, it worked. Very strange. Sorry about the false alarm.

Let's get the terminology right here. There is no such thing as "blu ray DVDs."
