Errors with new drive / USB enclosure

Post by advocation »

Hello,

I have a new drive (Pioneer BDR-211UBK) as well as it in a USB enclosure (Vantec NST-536S3-BK NexStar DX) and I am having troubles ripping blu rays. They will error out randomly, some with error codes and others just start to take days to complete. Below is an example of the errors:

Error 'OS error - {Device Timeout} The specified I/O operation on hs was not completed before the time-out period expired' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00003.m2ts' at offset '7281702912'
Error 'Internal error - Operation result is incorrect (250)' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom2' at offset '7281702912'
Error 'OS error - {Device Timeout} The specified I/O operation on hs was not completed before the time-out period expired' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom2' at offset '7281702912'
Error 'Internal error - Operation result is incorrect (250)' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom2' at offset '7281702912'
Error 'OS error - {Device Timeout} The specified I/O operation on hs was not completed before the time-out period expired' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00003.m2ts' at offset '7281702912'
Error 'OS error - {Device Timeout} The specified I/O operation on hs was not completed before the time-out period expired' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00003.m2ts' at offset '7281702912'

Any idea if this could be an issue related to the USB enclosure? It seems to play Blu-Rays fine (although I have only tested a few minutes at a time). Could this be an issue with MakeMKV reading off the enclosure or drive?

That enclosure has its own power supply, so it should have no issue with keeping the drive spun up.

The drive itself... will not be usable for ripping 4K UHD, because it enforces AACS 2.0, meaning only AACS 2.0 programs (like the included PowerDVD 14 UHD-BD OEM version) will actually read UHD disks.

The actual error codes shown do not match what I've seen with other drives, but the time-out may be because the drive hit a read error on the disk. Does it seem to be "re-seeking" when the error occurs?
