I start with apologies my first post here don't want to upset anyone
I did try and search for this topic but couldn't find anything.

Many mkv rips have the dialog loudness very low and so turning up the playback volume to hear the dialog then results in being blown away by too loud music.
This is thru stereo sound from a laptop connected to a TV using composite video and stereo audio
What causes this?
Is it possible to address this problem when ripping using MakeMKV?
What setting would enable this?

Have you used the same play software to play the BD itself, or is it something that can't play BD disks directly?

As mentioned in another topic, you will probably find that the characteristics of an MKV playing in, say, VLC, match exactly the characteristics of the original disk. That is, if the music is "too loud" in the MKV, it's because the BD had it "too loud", too. Since MakeMKV doesn't change the tracks as it copies them (other than decrypting them), the audio mix will be the same as the source.

I agree. It usually depends on what type of video player you will be using. I have used MakeMKV and played files in my iPod using Remux and VLC for windows. Works well if you ask me.
