After reading all pros and cons of LG and Asus alternatives I came to the conclusion best solution for an external drive should be ASUS BW16D1H/T with a SATA/USB enclosure. The second option would be a native external drive LG BE16NU50.
Since the Asus is much more used in the community, I assume, there are more options to work arround future issues, too.
Would appreciate any input with your experience about external solution or alternative recommendations.

I do have the ASUS BW-16D1HT with the Vantec Enclosure https://www.amazon.com/Vantec-NST-536S3 ... B01MRUN0HQ and it is workign great for me. I did have to downgrade the ASUS firmware to the clean & friendly 3.02 and everything works great now.

I just got a new ASUS BW16D1HT today. It was manufactured in April 2017 and has firmware 3.01. I assume, it should work as a friendly drive without any firmware modifications. Here is the link:

Since I want to use it external I got an enclosure from ICY BOX:

I just want to confirm, that the ASUS BW16 D1HT drive I recently got, works flawless (FW 3.01). No firmware flashing needed. Everybody who is interested, please see the link to the dealer in my last post.
