UHD-100 Discs fail - not all

Post by outland »

I’m starting to see that my UHD-100 discs fail to load on my drive. Strangely some discs works perfectly and others just comes back with “No Disc”

Once that work includes:
The Train (Kino Lorber)
The Body Snatchers (1978) (Kino Lorber)

Discs that don’t:
12 Angry Men (Kino Lorber)
Lawrence of Arabia (Disc 1) (Sony)
Four Flies on Grey Velvet (Severin)

Any tips, tricks or suggestions? Also, I’m located in the EU and not afraid to flash a drive if necessary. I can buy a Verbatim 43888 (EAN: 0023942438885) pretty easily. Will that be an upgrade and work better?

To start with, clean the discs with a microfiber cloth. Just give them a good wipe. This usually helps.

Also, make sure you insert the disc and let the OS initialize it first, before opening up MakeMKV.
Cheers :D

Thanks, I just tested what you said. I normally use a fiber cloth but wanted to test again. It's the same.

Today I also tested more discs, all 3 layered.

Worked:
Jaws
Deep Red (Arrow)
The Cat O' Nine Tails (Arrow)

Did not:
They Live (ScreamF)

So, I see that you sell drives but are located in AU. Does the https://uhdenableddrives.com/?product=v ... ty-enabled need to be flashed and is there any way to see on the box if the drive will be flashable or just work? Thanks for the help.

Do you mind me asking what the EAN number is of the Verbatim drive you sell?

Again, Thanks.

It is. Asmcom reported some issues with this drive some time ago. Before that I also recommended it. On his site he says "new batch". Maybe the issues are fixed now. Be aware that the enclosure electronics seems not to be the best quality and in addition it is very power hungry and might not work on some USB ports that don't deliver enough current. If you are interested in a 5,25" drive send a PM to me. If not - this Verbatim works out-of-the-box but you have now been told the issues that can come along.

In Denmark we are allowed to try a product bought online and return it if it doesn't meet our expectations. So I will give it a try and return it if it doesn't work. Then I'll PM you. Again thanks for the help everyone.

My LG BU40N had been acting up lately and was taking several attemps to rip certain discs. I was able to rip True Lies without issue and tried Alies (Director's Cut). Couldn't get it to rip and had a lot of errors. Decided to get the Pioneer BDR-S13UBK and Aliens ripped without any issues. There were also a few discs that I was not able to rip with the LG that I was able to rip with the Pioneer on the first try.
