Nope - ANY firmware I try to install, using ANY firmware app (the old one from this site, or the new one from Asus) result in one of the two errors I've mentioned in this thread. NO firmware can be installed. It appears that access to the drive to install firmware in ANY form is now failing. I'm not sure if that's due to the altered firmware I installed from this site, or from some issue with drivers or other software installed on my Windows 10 box getting in the way, tho'.

I use AnyDVD, but I've disabled it, so it should not be interfering. It didn't stop me from installing the firmware from this site, so my surmise is that the firmware from this site that it is now running is not allowing it somehow.

Given that it looks like there's no way I can restore the factory firmware (or even any firmware in the future, is my guess, but we'll see), I bought another drive from Asus and will install that. If I ever need to rip a 4k disc, I'll swap them. :-/
