MakeMKV for Linux and VC-1 video

Mike Chen and others, i just installed MakeMKV 1.4.1 and tried it on a VC-1 blu-ray disc. MakeMKV reports that the file has been saved sucessfully, however the output file size displayed at completion of the title copy is significantly smaller than the displayed source file size (on the order of 500 MB short of the full 2.7 GB file). When i try to play the file (in VLC for example) the sound plays fine, but the video does not play (the same problem as in the previous version).

Please let me know if there is more information i can pass on or other tests i can run.

What kind of source are you using? If you have access to a windows PC can you please verify if it is linux specific? In any case please enable "log debug messages" in preferences and post the log here if it contains any failures.

Using direct disc access mode
no failures other than these came up while ripping a title from the disc. MakeMKV says "Copy complete. 1 title saved". In the file that is produced, the audio plays properly, but the video does not display at all (using VLC or mplayer).

** I should note that MakeMKV also produces these same errors for non-VC-1 discs (e.g., AVC/MPEG4) and, while it still produces a file with audio and video that play, the file now jumps and stutters (where the same blu-ray, same title ripped by MakeMKV 1.4.0 played smoothly). It appears that version 1.4.1 has broken something in the linux version of MakeMKV.

**update** After ripping one blu-ray title with both versions (1.4.0 and 1.4.1) of MakeMKV, i found that both versions produce a stuttering, choppy video (for this particular title). MakeMKV 1.4.0 produced no errors while ripping the disc, version 1.4.1 produced the errors above upon loading the disc (before clicking "open the disc").

Thanks for update. Can you please post first few pages of "mkvinfo -vvv -x file.mkv" output for each problem mkv file? Please post log either here or PM me - the log should contain all headers and half a page of frames, discard the rest.

I should also mention that the .m2ts file plays back perfectly.

The file information looks fine. Are you using VLC player? We have not seen this issue.

mplayer behaves in the way I've described. vlc behaves the same way but says:

"VLC does not support the audio or video format WVC1."

kkloster21 has reported an identical issue with 2 out of 2 vc1 Blu-Rays he has tried:

I see - it is apparently the state of VC1 on linux. Were you ever able to play any VC-1 MKV on your box sucessfully? For example, if you demux M2TS file and create MKV out of it with mkvtoolnix, will it work?

You also mentioned that M2TS file played fine for you - what player did you use, vlc or mplayer?

I believe that svn build of VLC does support VC-1 properly.

The vc1 m2ts file plays fine in mplayer.

I can't figure out how to demux/remux the m2ts file with mkvtoolnix. I tried 'mkvmerge -o file.mkv file.m2ts' with no luck. It just sits there.

Will LCPM-HD audio streams be supported?

The app to demux m2ts is called tsmuxer and there is a linux version. Once demuxed, mkvtoolnix can mut a mkv file.

LPCM-HD will be supported soon.
