Starting from version 1.5.0 MakeMKV supports two dirve access modes: direct mode and OS access mode. The new OS access mode has its pros and cons. Because all requests go via OS all blu-ray drives supported by OS are visible to MakeMKV and program will share access with other programs, it will not unmount the disc and mount it back when done. The read speed also should be better with this mode. Apple added blu-ray discs support in OSX 10.5 Leopard so you need to run Leopard for blu-ray disks with this mode. Tiger is still supported with old direct mode. By default new OS access mode is used only for drives inaccessible with old direct mode, you may choose to always use OS access mode in program preferences.
With new mode the program can't display many disc information items and can't determine the drive type so it calls all drives as BD-ROMs. The impact is only visual inconvinience and will be improved in future versions.
Please post your experience here, how this new mode works out for you, especially if it makes any difference for conversion speed.
