Ripping Bluray read error and save failure

Hi Everyone

I'm trying to convert catching fire (hunger games) and it keeps failing- for some reason its having issues with this particular disk, it comes up with errors in the log and when it finally does display the list of titles, where there is usually 6-10 with varying sizes it seems to come up with a lot of duplicate titles (all the same size). After I select one to save it gets 75% of the way through and failes. I tried attaching a print screen but the quota has been reached.

Makemkv is an amazing program that hasn't failed me yet and has successfully worked on much newer BD so I don't know why its having so many issues.

Yes, the log is helpful.

First, you should update to the latest version.

The read errors start early in the scan process, and indicate that the disk is probably dirty.

The drive you're using is sensitive to available power. Is it plugged into a powered hub, or just a regular hub? When it starts to spin past about 5x, if it doesn't have full power available, it will essentially shut down and reset.

Thanks for getting back

Firstly the usb 3 hub it was connected to is not powered separately- although this has never been a problem before. the BD drive has a white connector suggesting a usb 1.0 (if this is the case) I doubt its underpowered. The hub is connected to a usb 3 port on the io panel and no other usb are connected to the hub.

I tried it again, this time plugging it into a usb 3 on the front panel of the case and got this error log- same problems as last time

I checked the disk and it is flawless (to the naked eye) and I have managed to manually back up the bluray to the hard drive but I'm unsure whether makemkv can use the folders in this way. Suggesting to me the disc must be fine if my pc can copy all files without incident.

Personally (and I'm unsure as I don't know much about this kind of computer stuff) the softwares behaviour suggests to me an encryption that the software cant handle- unless a film should have 100+ titles of the same length and size and name.

I can try another BD? Is it possible the drive itself is beginning to malfunction in some way? Its worked nothing but perfectly until this disc on all my BD both older and newer.

The thing about USB 3 ports is, if the device is only USB 2.0, the port will only provide 2.5 watts of power, even though USB 3 allows higher power ratings.

I'm suspicious of the medium errors at the start of the scan for different reasons (usually a dirty disk, sometimes a cracked hub), but MakeMKV gets past them. Those do not move around...

The ones mid-rip, though, occur at slightly different spots, 11544754176 in the latest log, 11554320384 in the first. That's usually not dirt, but a drive issue.

Did the drive come with a two-head cable? If so, try plugging both in, and try the rip. The last USB drive test I ran was limited by network speed, so the disk never spun up to full speed. There is no easy way to limit the read speed in MakeMKV, other than saturating the destination with other traffic. Several of us have asked for that...

You might also watch the read speed indicator, and see if there is a specific speed MakeMKV can work at, above which the drive acts up and breaks the rip.
