Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies Extended

Post by drathbun »

Attempting to rip Battle of the Five Armies (extended) from a recently purchased (retail - Amazon) combo pack of all three extended movies. I'm getting this log:

I understand this is going to be blamed on a defective disc, so I'm posting it to see if anyone else ripping this disc is encountering an error at the same place.

Drive being used is an internal drive on a desktop system. I've ripped thousands of discs (both DVD and bluray) with very few errors. The only repeatable / frustrating issues are with "Black Sails" (TV Show) and now this disc.

I didn't have any problems with Battle of the Five Armies Extended. Mine was purchased retail Canada Amazon.ca, so it may or may not be a different disc master than yours, and of course even if it's the same master, it could certainly be a different pressing.

Every once in a while (not overly often, but more often than I'd like), I've had legitimately bad discs. Once replaced, I had no problems. Which is why I always rip as soon as I get a new disc so that I can return it if there's any problems.

The log looks like what happens when you are using a USB-powered drive, and there isn't enough power available to run it above a certain speed. Once you hit that speed, the drive resets, and you get read errors followed by device errors. MakeMKV is one of the few programs that will spin disks at their full rated speed, so most people never notice it until they rip a LONG movie.

I'm using an internal drive, not a USB external drive. Unless the internal connection is via USB (which I would be surprised) that's not the issue.

My version is a bundle of all three extended versions purchased via Amazon. I also have the regular versions purchased as they came out, and they all ripped fine. I know that has nothing to do with the issue at hand, but at least I have one version of the movie ripped...

Thanks for the feedback.
