I keep getting fatal error and the program closes after I updated to v1.12.2 win(x64-release). Any ideas? It was working awesome.

With nothing to work from, no, no ideas.

If there is a fatal error, it would be unusual if Windows did not have information about it in the Event Viewer.

And with no information about Windows version or whether the problem occurred before or after an update, guesses would be just that - Guesses.

It is a windows 8 64 bit system with AMD 10 processor. it finds the disc, goes through the decryption then when it gets to where you would select which streams you want it gets the fatal error.

I think it is failing because it show no location to output. maybe? I am trying to change the ouput folder now.

No luck...It worked fine before the update. The program does work when doing a full disk backup decrypted. I must have something messed up in some of the settings. ugh.

Are there NO messages in the Event viewer, and nothing shown in the debug log?

I will try a previous version. It is working then it stops. I think it is creating a dump file but I cant read it. I have been looking at the windows event viewer but I don't know what im looking at/for.

The MakeMKV debug log should be readable with any text editor, including Notepad. If you have it enabled (FAQ link in my signature explains how), the information window even tells you the path to it when you start MakeMKV.

Knowing just what the fatal error is would go a long way to fixing it. Make sure your MakeMKV data directory (Preferences->General) is set to a location your user has permission to write to, because the point where you are having the problem is right where MakeMKV would be writing the scan information.

I believe you are correct about the write permission but I am having trouble making it work. Obviosly changing the destinationfolder isn't helping.

Does it let you change the data directory, before you scan a disk?

I'm assuming you're running MakeMKV with administrative privileges, because it's allowing you to access the optical drive with the necessary permissions.

I was able to change the data directory and I am running as the administrator.

I was going to do a system recovery and booted my computer to safe mode. I thought I would try makemkv just to see... And it worked in safe mode but still doesn't work when the computer is running normally. This is my old backup computer so I can leave it in safe mode while I try to figure out what's wrong, or just do a system recovery when I get time.

Reset your computer date a couple of months back. Maybe February 2018
Don't know if it is a glitch, a software bug or a safety thing..... maybe...

I just completed a factory reset on my machine. Reinstalled make mkv and it is working great again.
