I was able to rip season 7 just fine, but season 8 has been problematic. The log for disc 1 follows. Using a Macbook Pro 13" with Mavericks, external LaCie BD drive.

This is an error message that is characteristic of using a USB-powered optical drive with insufficient power on the USB port to spin it at full speed. Often, these drives will operate adequately at slower speeds, but, once they get past about 4x, they disconnect from the computer.

Make sure the drive is plugged into a port that has full power available, or use a powered hub. Many of these drives come with special cables that allow them to be plugged into two USB ports to get sufficient power to operate, but they must both be powered.
