Yes, this is the right place for HD-DVD related questions.

I was under the impression that ClownBD was a Blu-ray only utility...

truckerCLOCK,

If you've managed to rip with ClownBD why do you need to use MakeMKV?

Just demux using Clown, and remux using MKVToolnix. This way also removes pulldown flags which MakeMKV cannot do yet.

I was showing a friend who was asking why I still had my HDDVD's......which led me to pull out my old Xbox 360 HD drive. I then downloaded the latest version of Make and was thinking that "maybe" all the problems I had in the past had been fixed.....guess not. I only use Clown, or AnyDVD now.

You know, I actually find this remark offensive.

This is the MakeMKV beta forum. Its purpose is to identify flaws in MakeMKV, in order to improve the program. When somebody reports a valid problem, you don't tell them to sod off and use another program.

That said - I didn't know ClownBD was able to rip Pan's Labyrinth.

No, I don't think it's got anything to do with the soundtrack. I think the playlist is a bit different compared to other DVDs. This is the only HD DVD released by New Line, so they probably did things different than the other studios.

Anyway - I'm surprised to see that you could rip it with ClownBD. I thought ClownBD used eac3to to do the ripping, and on my computer, eac3to was unable to recognise the disc as an HD DVD. I did manage to rip it with eac3to, though, but I had to manually identify the correct evo-files, and give the full path of these to eac3to.

Clown could not rip the disc on the fly....I had to copy the image to my hard drive using AnyDVD first then find the feature files and then I could use Clown. Your right trondmm it doesn't recognize the HD DVD file structure......oh well I didn't mean to start a fight as I liked makeMKV's simple interface and I also like using Clown ...no flame wars or bashing was just curious

Hmmm. Not sure why you felt my comment was "offensive". I certainly did not tell truckerCLOCK to sod off, I merely asked a valid question under the circumstances.

I'm so happy with MakeMKV that I paid for it, and recommend it to others. However the pulldown issue with HDDVDs and MakeMKV is a valid one, and has been known about and commented upon by myself as well as others for some time (ditto PCM soundtracks and BluRays). I could not recommend to anyone MakeMKV as the best programme for ripping HDDVDs as a result. Fortunately HDDVDs are a dead format and rightly are a very low priority for MakeMKV to improve functionality for.

MakeMKV remains the easiest programme to use for ripping MKVs, but there are a small number circumstances where it needs additional programmes to create the "perfect" MKV. mike admin often recommends eac3to when these occur.

The 1.7.0 released introduced a bug where if only the video track is selected for processing (i.e. no audio, no subtitles), only the first EVO file is processed which means since most movies are split into two EVO files, they end about halfway through if only video is selected for processing. I've reproduced this bug in both the Windows (30 day trial) and Mac (fully licensed) versions.

One other thing. I've reproduced this error using twelve different HD-DVDs.

Anyone else having trouble with HD-DVDs since 1.7.1? I've found that ISOs of my HD-DVDs that would rip successfully with 1.7.0 are crashing 1.7.1.

Since I no longer have the drive (just the discs and the ISO copies) I don't have the hardware to try running it against the discs themselves to see if that works.

I'm running 1.7.3.

- Subtitles are no longer available for selection/deselection.
- Minimum File Length is ignored (which I believe has been an issue with HD-DVDs for a while).

I'm still able to rip the HD-DVDs thankfully. Howevery, I'm ripping straight from the disc, not an ISO.

Yes, I noticed that the subtitle selection was missing.

Also, unless it was just the two titles I tried with last night, it doesn't seem to be bringing the titles for each of the tracks into MakeMKV any longer. These, in my opinion, should continue to pre-populate the 'name' field in MakeMKV.
