Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux
I strongly recommend you only use isoprophl alcohol to clean the disc. For me using alcohol has resolved almost all read issues I have had with disc read issues. Using other methods suggested around the interwebs, such as liquid hand soap, has actually led to more problems for me.

Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux
It depends on the level of damage. I think I had one go for like 4-5 days and multiple runs before it was able to fully recover all data. I've had others only go for a few hours.

Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux
I've used the process from the below link which allowed me to ultimately rip content from a damaged disc with the result being only a second or two of garbled audio/video. It is very similar to the above process:

Re: Manufacturing Defects as Protection?
Haven't tried that yet. I do not have a 4K player, so I can't actually play the disc to see if it will work there. I just rip the 4K movies to my PC and move them to my NAS. I may just have to break down and get a player so I can test/play discs in the future. I rarely play my discs myself. The onl...

Re: Manufacturing Defects as Protection?
Oh BTW Cars UHD is one of the movies I was able to successfully rip so it is not a general issue with the movie itself.

Re: Manufacturing Defects as Protection?
I have the LG BP50NB40 (SVC Code: NB50) that I flashed to the BP60NB10 f/w 1.00 when I started building my Plex server on my Synology NAS awhile back. So far I've ripped 141 movies without issue until this latest Cars UHD I just bought this past weekend. I did forget to mention that when I picked u...

Re: Manufacturing Defects as Protection?
One other thing. I think cleaning with liquid soap may have contributed to making the problem worse. Unfortunately it was advise that I took from the interwebs. I only now clean with isopropyl alcohol and it almost always corrects disc read errors, assuming the disc is not damaged and has no scratch...

Re: Manufacturing Defects as Protection?
That's good to know. I just bought a Cars 2 4K/BR/Digital Code from BB and the 4K disc will not copy no matter what I've tried. I'm trying the BR disc now, so if it rips fine, I'll do the same as you did. Did you contact them via phone or email? If I recall correctly I think it was a combination of...

Re: Curious, How do Extended Editions Work on BD? MKV files Larger than OG BD?
The BD have multiple streams, which you can think of as different segments of the movie. A certain version of a movie is then made up those different streams and played in a certain order via a playlist. You can swap out or add in different streams to play a slightly different version of the movie. ...

Re: Duplicate Audio Tracks
Sorry the track I was looking to eliminate was the second "duplicate" DD Surround 5.1 English track, not the higher quality TrueHD Surround 7.1 English audio track. Since the second DD Surround 5.1 English track seems to be almost identical to the "core" audio track, I was lookin...

Re: Duplicate Audio Tracks
Thanks for the response. Out of curiosity I extracted the two different DD Surround 5.1 English tracks (using MKVToolNix) from on of my movies and found they only differed in size by 2K for a file that was 460MB. That tells me that the tracks are essentially the same. If I keep the "core" ...

Duplicate Audio Tracks
Recently I noticed that when I was ripping my Blu-Rays that most of my rips will have two duplicate audio tracks of the same type. For example, I will have two DD Surround 5.1 English tracks. After some research it appears that one of the tracks is a base or core for a higher quality track like True...

It's not naming calling. It is the truth about what you are doing. It's too bad there are people out there in the world like you that really destroy the Internet experience for everyone else. For you reference the definition of trolling so that you can in fact see that what you are doing is trolling...

Re: Why no full backup for DVDs?
DVD format has a number of ways to create a "backup"; you just need to copy the entire thing to an ISO file. "Just" copying will give the an encrypted file, but a number of players already include the DeCSS library, so it isn't a major issue. For Bluray, it's not so simple. An e...
