Re: Haywire - makes drive system haywire

[Edit] --- tested just now. With AnyDVD running first, MakeMKV does not crash the disk io system.
Although this is a workaround, it is not a solution.
Just let me know what I can provide to try to help.

Haywire - makes drive system haywire

The movie "Haywire", a LionsGate title causes MakeMKV version 1.14.7 to go haywire and hang the disk subsystem in Windows 10. I start the program, I insert the disc, the program does the spnny-spinny animation to determine if there is a disc in the drive. It never gets to the point to say what the d...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Can we get a summary of all the discoveries on the original post?
I appreciate all the back and forth on this topic, but if one were new to this thread, there is a lot of reading and some information that might not work. If the original post were updated this would be FANTASTIC!

Re: Rip successful only when I clicked start immediately

I just googled "makemkv sleep bug." Interesting. I do recall past times when my drive spun really fast, so maybe my drive has this. However, this was the first time ever (after ripping probably at least 70 4K discs so far) when a supposedly idle drive "took action" that affected what one expects to...

Re: BD Drive Speed gets stuck at 2x

Today's report, thus far: First disc, stuck at 2X. Exited program and restarted 3 times til it decided to go an unrestricted speed. Discs 2-5 or so, Unrestricted speed Disc 6 - 2X, exited again and resumed Discs 7-20 (ish) - no issues with unrestricted speed Appears to be no specific pattern really....

Re: Multiple drives for success?

This has always been good advice. I even have a problematic DVD from time to time that my ASUS DVD drive sounds like it's going to launch and explode. Putting it into my Pioneer BD drive and it's fine. So far have not had the issue with BDs or UHDs.

Re: Ripping "Friends" TV Series from blue-ray disk

Ultimately I suspect there is no special protection in place. Likely extra tracks for extra features.
The playlist above looks like your easy ticket.

Re: BD Drive Speed gets stuck at 2x

[Edit] -- Just now, inserted an old title with AACS v7, the rip was stuck at 2X. The pre-rip, I heard the drive come up to speed. Anyway, I ejected the disc, let the process error out, reinserted the disc, and now it is already going at 8x. Frustrating to not know what is causing it. I guess when I ...

Re: BD Drive Speed gets stuck at 2x

I re-ran the utility, and it is set to performance mode. See my attachment. When I sought a firmware update, I think I ended up on Pioneer Japan's site. I had version 1.20 or something at the time, Japan's site had 1.50. I downloaded the drive utility from the same site. Pionnner USA has firmware fo...

Re: BD Drive Speed gets stuck at 2x

Pioneer drives can slip into "quiet mode" that speed-limits them to about 2X when reading video. It's supposed to keep the drive quiet when playing movies. It can be turned off, but it shouldn't turn itself back on for only certain disks... That makes sense. When I installed the latest firmware I r...

BD Drive Speed gets stuck at 2x

Is it a software or hardware issue (or software on the hardware!) when trying to rip a BD and the speed goes no greater than 2x? It might be coincidence but I can read a bunch of titles at a high speed, 8x etc, then suddenly I insert a disc and the drive seems to go no faster than 2x. Every disc I t...

Re: "Fake playlist" protection - help needed

I am archiving some of my Blu-rays as I have bought the 4K versions. In the case of The Expendables , the 4K discs I bought do not include the Blu-rays, so I am making a rip of the Blu-ray so that I still have access to the HD version of the movie should I ever need it for any reason. Anyway, when I...

Re: "Fake playlist" protection - help needed

I did find out that infact trying to watch 47 Meters Down: Uncaged (USA Version) that infact it wouldn't even play in PowerDVD18 which it should have done but failed. For customers who buy movies produced by Lionsgate this is slightly worrying as buying a Legit disc and playing it on a laptop can b...

Re: Drive recommended for just basic DVDs?

ASUS 24B1ST
Very effective and cost effective drive on MOST discs. I have had a small number of problem discs out of the large number I have ripped.
