Why doesn't Java find the correct title? Shouldn't it?
It's not infallible. It can be improved.

Re: Midway

It's Midway in 4K. This other thread https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=21505 says another program found #504 to be the correct playlist, this disc does have that one so I'm trying it. Also interestingly all my playlists have 7 numbers for segment map rather than 10. Ok, I don't fol...

Hmmm weird, and yeah there's a huge list.
Thinking... is it the correct title? Redbox also has Dauntless: The Battle Of Midway, although it is DVD-only where I am. Don't know about nationally.

Re: Midway

I rented the Redbox version and neither 00539.mpls or 00741.mpls were even on the disc. I also couldn't find a playlist with the same segment map as in the screenshot. Anybody have any ideas? My Redbox rental has both and 741 matches the map shown above. Have not watched the movie, but quick testin...

mkvmerge will cut an mkv file into segments. You can split by time stamp, duration, chapter, etc.

Re: Audio issues ripping Region A disks, to play on region B blu ray player.

Note that Criterion often uses LPCM audio. Could be your older player doesn't like that in an MKV container.

Re: Read Error Question

Use the MakeMKV "Open File" menu selection.

For Blu-ray select the index.bdmv file.

For DVD, select video_ts.ifo.

Using /usr/bin/true as the executable dummies out the operation. Not many cycles wasted.

Re: Complete DVD backup

I have used dvdbackup in the past, and vobcopy will also mirror an entire disc. The result is a VIDEO_TS folder; you can make an ISO with the mkisofs utility. Remember to use the -dvd-video flag.

It is old but vobcopy has worked for years without error for me.

Re: Blu-ray Rips, But No Audio Track

Criterion often uses LPCM audio. There was a period a few years ago when Handbrake would not see audio tracks of that type. They corrected it eventually.

I always do "HandBrakeCLI --scan -i " just as a sanity check to see that Handbrake sees what I expect to be there.

Re: what to do with different angle of bluray?

I have Ray Harryhausen discs where angle switches between the b&w and colorized versions.

On the 1960s Star Trek tv series, angle switches between the original and the updated effects versions.

Re: Converting backup to remuxes

You want to make an MKV version of a title in the backup?

Use MakeMKV -> Open File and navigate to the index.bdmv file in the BDMV folder. It will treat the backup as if it were the original disc and give all the title and track options.

Backup is grayed out once you have opened the disc. Either Close the disc from the File menu or don't open it when you first mount the disc.

What linux distribution are you using?

It would be helpful if you could post the exact commands you are using and the complete output from each.

Re: Changes Aspect Ratio

I'm sure that there are NO black bars inside the mkv file. To add this, MakeMKV have to re-encode the stream from the Blu-ray, but this does not happen. Well, no, that's not right. Native Blu-ray is always 1920x1080 with square pixel sampling. Any title that is not exactly 16:9 will have black bars...
