Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

It's probably worth mentioning that Plex is unlikely to support the current DV in MKV format that's used in 1.15.1, and will most likely only support ones that follow the official specification from MKV, which will hopefully be supported in a newer version of MakeMKV. I wouldn't be surprised if Kodi...

Re: Official Dolby Vision MKV spec support

Yeah, once there is a version that includes the specced version of DV in MKV, then folks like Kodi & Plex can have a look at what's involved in supporting it. Really it's just a matter of having confirmation that X version is up to spec, and then samples can be generated and reviewed by whoever ...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

Any idea if the new software clients from Plex/Kodi etc will allow us to select HDR10 instead of DV for certain titles? I'm thinking of cases where there was a poor implementation of DV and the HDR10 layer does a better job with the video. Yes, most TV's come with the option to turn Dolby Vision On...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

Until Plex / Kodi can have a look at the files and determine what's possible to do, it's hard to say. A good example of a "poor" DV title is Spider-Man: Homecoming, where the DV layer exists, but is static throughout the entire film, and literally the only thing it does is trigger the DV ...

https://forums.plex.tv/t/feature-request-dolby-vision-support-for-mkv/576028/52 Plex is just waiting for test material! pretty sure they new spec will move fast :-) As I said in the Plex forums, it just means we'll be able to look at it. Really just waiting on being able to get a sample at the mome...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

Ah sure, yeah, the PGS issues and lack of chapters support is definitely a shortcoming of the current TS route. Just didn't want to give the newer people the wrong impression that the new mkv will have some improvements on the audio/video side of things. I don't understand, why are you saying that ...

Oh, I know, but I was thinking that asking here as to when it might happen was the better place :D

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

There's now an official Dolby Vision spec for mkv, as noted in https://github.com/cellar-wg/matroska-s ... n/pull/390

Official Dolby Vision MKV spec support

Now that https://github.com/cellar-wg/matroska-s ... n/pull/390 has landed, mkv now has official, documented support for Dolby Vision in mkv, similar to what was already possible with MakeMKV. With this official spec now available, will MakeMKV be updating to use the official spec?

Re: What are your playback setups?

I think I should point out that the Shield doesn't decode TrueHD/Atmos or DTS-HD, it only passes them through to your AVR if you have one. It can only decode non HD codecs (DTS/AC3/EAC3/etc.). Infuse on the Apple TV 4K is pretty good, as it will decode the HD audio, and output it as PCM for you.

Re: What are your playback setups?

I'm using Plex with a Mac Mini Server, and then either using my Nvidia Shield, or Apple TV 4K as clients. The advantage of the Shield is it can pass through the HD audio to my sound system, and supports PGS subtitles, but I think the picture quality on the Apple TV 4K is better. Haven't had any issu...

Trouble ripping Star Trek Beyond UHD

Hello all! I've been trying to rip my 4K movies, and have been able to rip all of mine successfully, other than Star Trek Beyond. I've tried two different copies, and both results in the same error, but not always at the same point during the disc (always during the first third though). The disc loo...

Re: 1080p vs 2160P

It's worth noting that PMP and mpv don't currently passthrough HDR information, as far as I'm aware.
