Re: Possible issue with aspect ratio on anamorphic NTSC DVDs
I've also run ffprobe against various mkvs, some very old and some new, and am also seeing a potential oddity in the metadata for 16:9 NTSC DVD mkv files created by makemkv. 4:3 NTSC and PAL DVDs don't have this issue based on the files I've checked so far.

Re: No Forced Subtitles on The Bourne Identity, Captain America (Winter Soldier, Civil War)
as has been mentioned, there is no standard here, and some work to find out where the forced subs are will typically be needed. Of the Marvel films with forced subs, all that I can recall have them in a dedicated track that your disc player will default to after you've gone through the opening menus...

Re: How to rip audio only
When I’ve wanted to save audio only I’ve ripped with makemkv and then pushed the mkv through mkvtoolnix to drop the video and split by all chapters, creating a set of mka files. I’ve then processed these downstream using gMKVExtractGUI to convert to wav, then converted to FLAC. Might be an easier me...

Re: Direct Blu-ray playback with VLC player NOT WORKING Ventura
I acquired my first Mac over the holidays and have been evaluating to see if I would consider a Mac desktop as a "daily driver" in place of Windows. I too had a lot of trouble to get the makemkv App Management approval to stick in Ventura, every time I enabled it, it would spontaneously di...

Re: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Another option for something like ST 5 is to set the Default flag in makemkv itself. My workflow with a new disc is to load in an official player and work through the menus which sometimes involve language selection, and then open the player's subtitle options to see if an obscure track number has b...

Re: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
I agree with almost everything you posted there. Take the example of Star Trek 6 UHD, with the check box selected for forced subs. makemkv will create a second sub track containing the forced subs and mark the track as Default. If there were no forced subs at all, resulting in a single sub track, th...

Re: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
For several of the Star Trek UHDs you'll need to check the forced subs option and makemkv will create a second subtitle track that just contains the forced subs. This authoring approach is unusual, but I come across it from time to time. The second track containing the forced subs will have a Defaul...

Re: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
The keys are available for the UK releases of ST 5 and 6. Like several other Star Trek UHD's, there are forced subtitles to watch out for (forced as embedded in the main track), so look out for those and depending on your playback platform, you might need to set a forced flag after ripping using so...

Re: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
If you have internet access enabled via View>Preferences>General it should be automatic in due course. I submitted .tgz files for the UK releases of Star Trek V and VI a couple of days ago, but it's the weekend and hopefully keys will be available in due course.

go to preferences/protection and set DVD protection to CellTrim and you should see something more familiar.

Re: DVD Extended Edition Not Showing Up?
to rule out an issue with the new default DVD behaviour since 1.17, have you tried going in to preferences/protection and changing DVD structure method to CellTrim or CellFull? I recently noticed that the Auto method can miss out a legitimate title, so I've switched away from Auto.

Re: Blu-rays with extra video in m2ts files
The Columbo S1 UK blu-ray has the Universal Studios logo at the end of the credits, with the fanfare theme for the audio. When trimming the non-public video tail I could not find any way to keep the logo and audio cleanly via mkvtoolnix as it always clips on the last keyframe (apologies if this is n...

Re: Doctor Who Season 2, 1 chapter by itself
Mike just reworked DVD processing functionality, so this might be a case of "creative authoring" not being handled properly? Things you could try... - Rather than the default 'Auto' under Preferences > Protection tab > DVD , manually select each mode, reprocess disc & see if things ch...

Re: Doctor Who Season 2, 1 chapter by itself
I have previously ripped the UK DVDs of series 1 - 4 without issue but that would have been with old versions of makemkv. Your discs might be authored differently, but I see a different issue. I just put in disc 2 of series 2, and with 17.1 all the main episodes show up, but the "in-vision conm...
