Re: Subtitle process (MakeMKV and Handbrake for Blu-ray)

Would be interesting to know which BDs you had success with so people can verify. Maybe discs for different regions are in fact authored differently. The Bourne Ultimatum (UK release, but not Bourne Identity. It had the subs burned into the video directly.) The rest are US releases. Looper Ronin Sp...

Re: Subtitle process (MakeMKV and Handbrake for Blu-ray)

I've also found that MakeMKV is good at picking out the needed subtitles when people speak a different language. Which is the opposite of pretty much everyone else's experience here. Since almost none of the subs are actually flagged as forced, MakeMKV can not recognize them automatically (unless M...

Re: Subtitle process (MakeMKV and Handbrake for Blu-ray)

I've also found that Handbrake's auto/scan feature is quite reliable. You'll want to start by including all subtitle tracks in the language you speak, then in the GUI set the first/only track to Foreign Audio Search or whatever it is. I don't actually use Handbrake anymore since I'm anti-compression...

Re: Heads up - Support for LG UHD drives

I have a BU40N that is _not_ working with firmware 1.01, but it seems to be some other weird kind of firmware, maybe? The Drive Information box in MakeMKV reports this (on a Mac): Drive Information OS device name: /dev/rdisk2 Current profile: BD-ROM Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST Product: BD-RE BU40N Revis...

Re: Heads up - Support for LG UHD drives

What OS are you on? For me, on Linux, this is what MakeMKV looked like after ripping a disc on my laptop: https://owncloud.now.ai/index.php/s/UPb1hifvpgog22d The "DEBUG: Code 03DF/..." line is what you should see if it's successfully able to rip from your drive. My BU40N worked fine with the 1.01 f...

Re: Heads up - Support for LG UHD drives

Today the support for "official UHD" drives was finally enabled (not as smooth as it was hoped). As of today most "official" drives are supported, EXCEPT ones with latest firmware. If you have an "UHD official" drive, you should get one of two messages: Code 03DF - your drive is working fine, you c...

Re: forced subtitles

Additionally, if you are _not_ wanting to do additional processing, there are tools out there to extract the subtitle tracks (MKVtools), view them on their own (BDSup2Sub) then remux with the bum tracks taken out (MKVToolNix). I'm a bit, mmm, maybe 'pedantic' isn't quite the right word, but somethin...

Re: Heads up - Support for LG UHD drives

Thank you for your contentious support. I'm not sure if the use of the word 'contentious' there was intentional or auto-correct mayhem, but either way that was hilarious. On the few occasions in my life where people have been eagerly awaiting some work of mine to be done, I told them that I subscri...

Re: Forced Subtitles from Captain America 2 & 3 - Won't Work Properly

Just to add more kindling to the fire, you could also try MKVTools to extract specific tracks from an MKV (http://www.emmgunn.com/mkvtools-home/) It as an 's' button and a 'extract' button, boom, done. I use this all the time when I get an mkv file that has (what it thinks is) multiple forced subtit...

Re: Heads up - Support for LG UHD drives

I have a Mac, BU50N (firmware 1.01 I believe, I don't have it with me) and around 25 4K disks. If there are any beta testing opportunities for this feature/drive support, I'd be more than happy to help. :) My bad, it's a BU40N. Offer still stands if MakeMKV plans on somehow supporting this drive an...

Re: Forced Subtitles Why So Hard??

I've found that selecting _only_ the forced (English) subtitles in MakeMKV has been rather reliable. HandBrake has a best guess algorithm to figure out what it _thinks_ the forced subtitle is, but it's not always obvious/correct. Most modern media players of note (Kodi, VLC, etc.) can render a subti...

Re: Forced Subtitle Only Selection Rule

I, like the OP, only care about forced subtitles (on Blu-Ray discs), not the full tracks, so ripping the full subtitle tracks makes it more difficult to zero in on what I need. I slightly modify the selection criteria posted earlier in this thread to explicitly select only the English forced tracks:...
