FYI I have a LiteOn BD-RE Slimtype EB1 HLE2 RIDL002377WLd which also works with LibreDrive and MakeMKV.

Is there a way to download an earlier version of makemkv seeing that v1.15.1 is reported to work with Big Sur but v1.15.3 (latest version) not?

I've been reading up on it in the forums here (which I ought to have done BEFORE ordering a drive or posting about it) and figured this out. But since I had to order it from the US (I'm in Europe), sending it back is a bit expensive, I'll just keep it and stick to archiving my non 4K blu ray collect...

I just received my Lite-On EB1 UHD blu-ray drive which is capable of playing DVDs, Blu-rays and 4K Blu-rays. The drive does recognise any 4K Blu Ray I put in it (which my older blu-ray drive does not do), but I am unable to get it to work with MakeMKV. I have tested several 4K blu-rays and everytime...
