Interestingly I've got 2 blu-rays, one with obvious physical damage (err..a scratch), one brand new and neither would not rip with "Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:ILLEGAL MODE FOR THIS TRACK" ( https://www.makemkv.com/faq/item/7/catid/6 ) followed by "IO Error". Since the first one...

MakeMKV will try to pull forced subtitles from tracks. It will put them in a separate track, which is deleted if they source didn't use the forced flag. It's not ripping the forced subtitles as a separate track for these DVDs. Even with +sel:all it doesn't find a separate track with just the forced...

Yours sounds the same as mine, although I’ve put together a computer with 2 DVD and 2 BluRay drives (4 optical drives total) and scripted ripping from each drive in turn so I can set 4 disks going and leave it to get on while I sort and label the last batch(es).
