Re: Alien and Black Hawk Down Won't rip, ASUS BW-16D-1HT

An example from the log… one I haven't seen before. 001003:0020 DEBUG: Code 101000192 at SnjLlET?7*kAC=V3:29402762 001003:0020 DEBUG: Code 101000192 at <n#P\T%TRbfQ<%b::213130559 002003:0000 Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00713.m2ts' at...

The guide is here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634

It is a sticky post at the top of the UHD drives section. Your drive is new enough that it has an encrypted firmware which makes it harder to downgrade.

Re: Botched subtitles when ripping Avatar

I extracted the forced subtitles with mkvextract. mkvmerge -i Avatar.mkv File 'Avatar.mkv': container: Matroska Track ID 0: video (MPEG-4p10/AVC/H.264) Track ID 1: audio (DTS-HD Master Audio) Track ID 2: audio (DTS) Track ID 3: audio (AC-3) Track ID 4: subtitles (HDMV PGS) Track ID 5: subtitles (HDM...

It seems the OP and I have the same disc & I ripped both subtitle tracks. The other subtitle track is subtitles for everything, as one would expect.

MakeMKV tells you where it is storing logs when it first starts up if you have debug logging turned on.

Re: Best compression while maintaining quality

I happen to have that same TV series, so I tried some encodings of the first episode. My MKV rip is 12.25 GB. My h.264 encode is 3.64 GB. My 10-bit h.265 encode is 2.89 GB. Not as small as the files you've created, but still significantly smaller than the 1:1 rips. I don't use a denoiser, so all the...

Re: Best compression while maintaining quality

How does your method with vapoursynth, etc. compare to just doing a h.265 transcode? For example, I recently turned a 26.4GB blu-ray rip MKV into a 5.3GB h.265. To my eyes the h.265 looks almost indistinguishable from the source for casual movie watching from the couch.

Re: Windows hangs after MakeMKV has ripped a number of DVDs

Does MakeMKV have any log messages? Does this behavior happen while a disc is being ripped or after a rip has finished? Does Task Manager indicate something is using all the CPU or network or disk I/O on the system?

Re: JAVA installation help

Are you asking about Windows 10? It is important to understand the difference between Java as a web browser plug-in vs Java as a runtime available on your computer. Having it available as a plug-in for your web browser(s) is probably not the thing you want to do. https://www.java.com/en/download/hel...

Re: Progressive Video Output for DVDs

I've used MakeMKV to rip DVDs that are both interlaced and progressive. It really does just copy whatever is on the disc. Looking at representative examples in MediaInfo ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaInfo ) you can tell the difference it seems. Progressive example: Video ID : 1 ID in the orig...

Or perhaps out of disk space?

I have ripped that movie and encoded it as an h.264 without error.

Re: Schindler's List missing key

MakeMKV will download keys silently. It probably downloaded the key for your copy of the movie. If you look in your data directory (as specified in preferences) you'll find a file named _private_data.tar where the downloaded keys are stored.

Re: Forbidden Planet Blu-Ray Audio Problem

pjarvi's suggestion is a good one. Also, what did the MakeMKV log say when you ripped the movie? You can turn on debug logging in MakeMKV ( https://www.makemkv.com/faq/item/8 ). Also, you can use a utility called MediaInfo ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaInfo ) to learn all sorts of details abo...
