Re: Central subtitle rip/don't rip info???

Nice find! I've just checked this and it seems to be accurate

PGS1:
1836 items in Mediainfo
917 items in BDSup2Sub

PGS2:
40 items in Mediainfo
20 items in BDSup2Sub

Looks like yet another method for Mike to implement an automatic recognition of forced subs that aren't flagged.

Re: How much a subtitle or audio track take?

You can use TSMuxer to extract the sub from the m2ts or MKVCleaver to extract it from the MKV to see how large it is. It's usually pointless to skip it cause it's so small.

But if you watch the movie, not once do you see the subtitle track so why are they selected?
Because of the default settings of MakeMKV. You can set them according to your needs.

Re: Please note... ...is not supported

Don't remember that being the case on my girlfriend's FireTV. In any case, you can playback a movie, select the tracks you want and then save this as default.

Re: Subtitle default mkv flag handling

But, some discs are very special and have a huge number of forced subtitles (f.e. Narcos). Right, but wouldn't the language in that case help as the second identifier? You'd ignore all the other small subtitle streams but of your preferred languages. I work around the mess by having MakeMKV rip eve...

Re: Subtitle default mkv flag handling

VLC is also a bad example, because if a subtitle language is set in the settings, it always selects the first matching subtitlle track regardles of the MKV settings (default/forced). With VLC is works only, if not subtitle lanugage is set and the subtitle track is set to forced. I've always used VL...

Re: Subtitle default mkv flag handling

I believe matroska spec requires each track of type to have a default flag. And it turns that VLC et al interpret the "default" flag differently. That's not exactly how I read Moritz' FAQ entry over at hxxps://gitlab.com/mbunkus/mkvtoolnix/-/wikis/Default-and-forced-flags-and-default-yes-no-in-the-...

Re: Please note... ...is not supported

No need to open, I'm sure there's enough boards where people can tell you what chip is inside (if it's not mentioned on the manufacturer's page already).

Re: Please note... ...is not supported

I've bought an Android player with S905X chipset and immediately installed LibreELEC/CoreELEC and Kodi is working just fine.

Re: Why no full backup for DVDs?

Was it, really? I read his comment as there being a difference in difficulty in creating unecrypted BD ISOs vs DVD ISOs. Since DVD Shrink and DVD Decr*ypter do exactly that, I see no reason why Mike could no implement routines dealing with newer DVD copy protections. As to why he does not, we can on...

My original question was really just asking why MakeMKV doesn't do full DVD backups when it does for Blu-Rays.
Which apparently noone was being able to answer satisfactorily; since Mike hasn't chimed in yet, it's all just speculation.

Re: Why no full backup for DVDs?

because you keep posting suggestions that either don't make sense, I have already covered, or insinuate that I don't know what I am doing. Probably because your question did not make sense or lacked relevant info. Why do you want full disc backup for DVDs if their menus are causing playback problem...

Re: Why no full backup for DVDs?

Of course DVD Shrink doesn't know the MKV format but that wasn't my question. You could rip the main movie to MKV with MakeMKV or re-author the disc with DVD Shrink (after having stripped protections with An*DVD or something).

Re: Why no full backup for DVDs?

So, if you wan to strip the menus why do you need full-disc backup for DVDs? Have you tried ripping the main movie with MakeMKV for the DVD that does not work with DVD Shrink?
