Re: 3D playback inferior quality

If there's a difference, it's the player's fault. Maybe PowerDVD is changing some settings behind your back when you play the mkv.

Re: Couple files wont play in media player

Both movies have Dolby TrueHD soundtracks....... Did you also keep the "core"? Does your media player support TrueHD? When you say "Media Player", do you mean Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, or a standalone hardware media player?

Re: Alex Cross MPLS file

A competitor's program (which is used only for ripping, and lacks mkv muxing), is able to tell which is the correct playlist on this type of disc. Out of respect, I will not name the program.

Re: Workflow to build a digital movie collection

I would look for a hardware player that will support MPEG2, VC-1, H.264, TrueHD, multi-channel LPCM and/or flac, and DTS-HD MA in an mkv file. That should cover all DVD and Bluray rips. Then, you won't need to transcode anything - saving time, and keeping the full quality.

Re: HD Audio 7.1 being backed up as 5.1 only

I think you are getting bad info from XBMC and VLC - they are just showing you the number of channels in the DTS core. I don't believe it's even possible for MakeMKV to convert DTS-HD MA 7.1 to DTS-HD MA 5.1. I'm not sure it will ease your mind any, but you can open the mkv with MakeMKV and it will ...

Re: VC-1 to H264?

Are you playing this on a pc via XBMC? If so, I wouldn't re-encode it. Just figure out why it isn't playing correctly in XBMC and fix it.

Re: Joining chapters of one film from two disc's.

You need to do them in reverse order because it won't let you have two chapters with the same names. Yes, it will. In fact, working from first to last is the easiest way: After you type the new chapter name, simply press "ENTER" and it will jump to the field with the next chapter name. Another tip:...

Re: FLAC ripping from Music DVD possible?

I would use Makemkv to rip from the disc, and then use Foobar to convert to flac. Foobar will even allow you to split chapters into separate files.

Re: Merging Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogy Set

I put the "00.00.00.500 " code in the "...after this duration" box, which is how I read the instructions. Read them again. It should be: 00 : 00 : 00.500 not 00.00.00.500. Use colons to separate hours, minutes, and seconds. Also, for large files it can take a long time for mmg to read the...

Normally, I wouldn't - but if you want the subs to be identified by a filter that can pick out forced subs (such as the MPC-BE subtitle renderer), then you need to use BDSup2Sub on the Avatar subs.

You can also run the subs through BDSup2Sub and there is an option to set the entire stream as forced.

If it's your collection, then just put the shelf back up. Surely you didn't just throw away all of your discs.

Re: H.264 MPEG-4/AVC and WMV

Isn't there a lot more to quality than the type of codec? For example, how well it is transferred from film to digital, bit rate, etc. So, if done well, even an MPEG2 transfer could have higher picture quality than a not-so well done H.264. If disc space is not a major concern (such as with a short ...
