Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
It seems a lot of these third party PCIe USB expansion cards could be cheaply made junk prone to failure and corruption as well. Not sure I want to risk 2 years of archiving to some $30 PCB made to a price. Maybe I just have to get used to the idea of scanning everything with ffmpeg. Maybe that is ...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
not sure if it does that on dvds but you saw makemkv said something when it saw weird junk Makemkv never gives me any error messages. Anyway screw these USB ports I'm done wasting my life on them I'll get a PCI-E card with hopefully 8 working USB 3.2 ports which might be even faster than 3.0, now t...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
its all drive testing im that guy selling flashed and tested UHD drives Oh I see. Can I ask what software you use for testing? I was looking at this one called FreeFileSync to verify the actual contents of files are the same. I think first it checks to see if the number of bytes are the same, and i...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
Also I checked S.M.A.R.T attributes in CrystalDiskInfo many times and it never says anything is wrong. So the SSD is blissfully unaware that it's writing garbage to the cells, more reason to think it's happening downstream at the USB stage. I had seriously considered whether it's the USB to SATA con...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
i write 1.2TB over usb a day Hmm interesting. That is a lot of video and there is no way you could be watching 1.2TB a day so maybe you should scan the files for errors with ffmpeg afterwards. It's a similar situation where you buy a DVD box set and think you've got it safely but until you actual p...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
urf well you could try on usb 2 ports I had considered that but 20MB/sec is painful when you're doing hundreds of gigabytes. Instead I got this 3.5" SATA hotswap bay so that I can avoid USB altogether. https://a.l3n.co/i/lCZcjr.jpeg makemkv is unlikely to exceed the bandwidth unless you are us...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
Had this issue rear its ugly head again, except this time on a different motherboard - Asus H87. This board is from the same generation of Intel chipset as my other Asrock Z97X board - 2014 Haswell socket. Here is a sample of the errors which occured today according to ffmpeg... Re: MakeMKV, just BUY it already.....
I'm in a similar position. We may get a new key shortly, we may not, but I get enough use of the software to make a purchase worthwhile. Someone - perhaps Mike? - has left a new BETA key under the tree, valid until the end of June 2024. I've noticed there's always a delay at the end of every 60 day...

Re: MakeMKV, just BUY it already.....
Is it normal for the developer to go dark for almost half a month? We're a small community, 2 weeks afk is maybe not that crazy. Maybe they had IRL stuff to do like moving house, health issues, or just super busy with other stuff. I just spent 2 weeks archiving 1TB of DVDs and got nothing else done...

In the meantime you could change the system clock which works on Windows (not sure about MacOS and Linux - can anyone advise?)

Re: LOADS of A/V sync issues
I rarely get those sync warnings, and I think they are generally benign as you have found. It's hard to say whether in the cases where the resulting mkv had a legitimate sync issue whether that was the mkv file being authored incorrectly or if the media player was not properly obeying timestamps and...

Re: DVD errors on two discs. Second layer of a dual-layer disc inaccessible?
Yeah I'd say give 1.16.7 a go, failing that try DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to attempt individually extracting the specific title(s) giving trouble, failing that try other DVD drives cause some of your comments sound like the disc(s) may be on their way out unless they just needs a clean (not that it'...

I like that you think I'm GPT. There's lots of people in real life that think I'm a fake person. When in real life; I'm old. I get info. I make a decision. I run with it until I hit a wall.
