Re: Backup option greyed out for DVDs but not for blu ray

Backup is a Bluray-only function.

Doing this search on Google brings up some interesting rabbit holes to explore: "hd-dvd remove 3:2 pulldown flag"

If Avast is blocking the install, please submit the download URL for MakeMKV to them for review. False positives are usually corrected once they have a sample file.

Re: NEW VERSION OR REGISTRATION KEY

You can set your system DATE to a date prior to the expiration of the original key (25 January 2019 will work for v1.42.2), start MakeMKV, then reset the date to current. You should then be able to enter the new beta key.

Re: Seems to read and convert but doesn't save the file.

The drive is having issues reading the disk, so it doesn't save the titles that have errors.

Re: Help me figure out Playlist Obfuscation?

The most popular tool is PowerDVD. I personally don't use it because I caught an older version of it trying to update the firmware on my drive without permission. Hopefully they've stopped that (it was almost a decade ago). But it's been pointed out in a few messages I've read that PowerDVD's latest...

Re: Buyer Beware: Comes with Heavy Junk-Mail

Do you "fingerprint" your email, by giving each vendor their own address to use? Not everyone can, depending on who hosts your email, but I assign each company I do business with a unique address for contacting me. The one that is used for MakeMKV is unique to MakeMKV, as is the one used on the hand...

Re: Feature Request - Eject and Read

No, you haven't missed any features in the advanced tab (at least as far as this request). There is a conflict in the "insert and read"; going beyond what MakeMKV does right now (read the beginning of the disk to get some basic information), there are two possible paths; Start a backup, and Open the...

Re: Bum drive, or Bum discs? ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.00d

Without a different drive to test on, it is very hard to eliminate the drive. The 'OS error - STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR' and 'OS error - (ipc/send) invalid destination port' usually occur when the drive is trying "too hard" to read the disk, and stops listening to the operating system for a while.

Re: Bum drive, or Bum discs? ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.00d

The drive is finding unreadable spots near each other in both situations, which usually points to a dirty disk. The fact that they aren't in the EXACT same spot usually means that you will be OK after cleaning the disk. Exact same spots often mean scratches or other flaws that cleaning won't fix.

Re: Best Audio Decoding Settings OSX

A word of caution to check whether QT supports FLAC yet. I know I've seen comments about FLAC being largely unsupported by Apple software. Not having a Mac for my own use, I can't comment either way. For intermediate processing, have you considered using an uncompressed format? Things like PCM maybe...

Re: AACS Key Revocation

If your drive supports LibreDrive (check the separate section here about that), revocation won't be a big problem going forward. However, versions of AACS that change the encryption itself may still need a version update.

More information on Free Lossless Audio Codec: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC Actually, conversion to AAC and FLAC should not take long, but, for some reason, people are reporting use of the AAC and FLAC profiles are making for LONG rips. Ripping the audio from the optical disk "as is" is the fa...
