Re: Audio Dolby 5.1 option is not visible in Title dropdowns

Using version 1.8.0 for Windows, I opened a disk that is labeled as having Dolby 5.1 audio. MakeMKV reports this as "DD 3/2+1 English", 6 channels, 48000 sample rate.

Are you seeing something different when you view the track information?

Re: newbie question

MakeMKV is stand-alone for converting DVDs and Bluray Disks into MKV files. No other software needed.

Re: MakeMKV broken on Windows 8.

Yes, taking ownership of the directory is one way, but you can also add yourself as having "full control" to the directory, which is probably the best way. The installer can then still take control as needed, and you can edit as you please.

Start by enabling debugging (link in my signature to how to do that), and posting the log here.

Re: Aladdin Rip Failure (v.1.8)

Additional suggestion - clean it and WAX it. I use Pledge furniture polish (or generic equivalent), because it both cleans the dirt off and fills in fine scratches. It won't do anything for major scratches, but it has a high success rate with getting disks "good enough" for ripping.

Re: VOB to MKV to MP4/M4V

Go to handbrake.fr and download Handbrake. You will want to go with the "Nightly Builds" version when you start dealing with files from BDs (especially if subtitles are involved), but the release version will get you started.

Is this an issue with the Windows version of MakeMKV, or the Linux version? The path names are confusing, given the section of the forum you posted this message to...

Re: Since Last Update, Can No Longer Do Full Disk Backup

OK, sorry I assumed it was obvious that I was using a BRD since that's what the program works with and I mentioned the feature had worked previously. I used "DVD" generically just meaning the disc, my bad. Well, when you start out with "... I can no longer backup full DVD's", we have to take you at...

Re: Since Last Update, Can No Longer Do Full Disk Backup

Correct - "Backup" is a BD-only option. I've been using MakeMKV since 1.5.6, and there has never been a backup option for a DVD.

Re: 2 Movies on 1 Blu Ray Disc

If you are ripping to MKV files, you will have separate files for each title on the disk. If you are making a backup, you will have one directory structure, but the individual titles will be files within that directory structure, just like they are on the BD itself. I've picked up several 2-in-1 BDs...

Re: Home Video Quality Loss?

Check the link in my signature for how to turn on debugging; it will give a lot more information about why something failed. Wild guess - the disk has a defect in it that caused the system to give up trying to decode it. Cleaning helps a lot with "well used" disks, when the family isn't too particul...

That file needs to be sent using the instructions found at www.makemkv.com/svq/ , so that Mike can look at it.

Re: Unable to open Atlas Shrugged part two

If you can upload the file to a web-accessible location (there are services that allow you to post files for free, I just use one of my personal web servers), you can send Mike a link to the file at the email address in the instructions.

Re: Home Video Quality Loss?

MakeMKV simply repackages what is there - the contents are unchanged (other than decrypting if encrypted), by default.

There are some audio formats that CAN be changed, but that is optional.

Re: MakeMKV broken on Windows 8.

That will also happen at times in Win7; the directory that is created during the install is sometimes tagged as NOT allowing writes by even an admin-level user. You can change those properties as an admin, by right-clicking on MakeMKV's directory in Explorer, and selecting "Properties", then the "Se...
