Re: DVD's not saving?
If VLC can only play half the movie, there is likely a flaw in the disk, or a fingerprint. VLC will skip over minor errors (one or two sectors) when reading directly from the disk (it doesn't need any conversion to play DVDs). And handbrake will stop converting when it receives a bad sector error.

Re: DVD's not saving?
back in '14 when I posted my message, I had less experience with Disney disks, but, generally speaking, there are 2 or 3 copies of the movie present, identical except for the titles and credits, which will be in English, Spanish, and French. On Bluray, the "800" file is the English version...

Re: Remove subtitles from mkv?
Unfortunately, with JUST MakeMKV, it can't be done. If players actually used the "default" flag, it would be a different story. I've even thought about putting together a text-based, EMPTY subtitle track I could merge into files as the "first" subtitle track, to get around it. Bu...

Re: Ripping Star Wars Blu-Rays
Having just ripped episodes 1-7 and Rogue One in the last 45 days, I have the raw MKV files handy. I use this as part of my normal profile: <profileSettings app_DefaultSelectionString="-sel:all,+sel:(favlang|nolang),-sel:mvcvideo,=100:all,-10:favlang" /> For Rogue One, this recovered 5 aud...

Re: AACS 2.0 is cracked?
Until someone publishes code to do this, it would be hard for MakeMKV to "update" to do it. For all we know so far, they managed to obtain ONE key and crack ONE disk. Yes, that's a remarkable change from "No keys, no disks", but still not a general cracking.

Re: Ripping Star Wars Blu-Rays
Primary suggestion is to use expert mode and construct a profile (or at least a default selection rule) that pulls ALL audio tracks, not just the "best specification" track. MakeMKV CAN rip every track, but the default rule is to not grab all audio, just the ones most compatible with playb...

Re: Using Java Runtime Environment to get around obfuscation
I can't say how you tell on a Mac - I just know how it responds on Windows. I see NOTHING different in the opening screens, UNLESS I insert a disk with obfuscation, in which case there is more information displayed.

/manualdvd/
This ONLY works with DVDs.
The other option is to rip the whole thing, and use other means to separate the segments. I do this a lot, because everything I rip gets processed with handbrake, to make it smaller, and handbrake can break things up by chapter.

Mike said it doesn't work on everything, but... he also asked that if you found something that it guessed wrong at, you should follow the steps in the first message of this topic: http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14330 If Java is working and MakeMKV doesn't even offer a "fe...

Re: volume key is unknown - makemkv cannot find discattd.dat
If you're ripping directly from the disk and MakeMKV cannot generate the proper key, please follow the steps in the FAQ link in my signature so that Mike can look at it.
It is rare that MakeMKV needs to look up a volume key, EXCEPT when dealing with an ISO instead of the actual disk.

Re: If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here firs
If you see "device not ready" errors after a read or seek error, it can be because the drive cannot operate reliably at the speeds MakeMKV is capable of ripping. This is often the case with USB-powered drives... once the speed gets above 5 to 6x, the power becomes inadequate. Some other pr...

Re: New and completely lost!
Then you do need something that creates an unencrypted ISO file for burning. Searching for "dvd to iso" will give you a number of leads. I can't recommend any current packages; I gave up on the idea of using optical media as "backup" for ANYTHING a long time ago! Consumer writabl...

Re: New and completely lost!
There are few COMMERCIAL programs that will copy protected disks. And it is getting harder to find programs that will remove the copy protection and leave you with what can be burned onto another disk. I had found one a few years ago, but the author stopped supporting it, and even the site it was ho...

Re: How to select ONLY MVC video?
But it IS a separate track - it is not needed if you are viewing the movie as 2D. It's just as "connected" as the audio, subtitle, and chapter tracks, in that they work together, but do different things.
How else would you suggest representing it?

Re: Ben Hur older version not reading
That really doesn't narrow it down a lot - I've seen the Heston 'Hur' disk in a couple of different collections.
Disk 2 ripped without error for me back in September without error. It was from a $5 set at Walmart that also had The Ten Commandments (also 2 disks).
