Re: Getting foreign language subtitles to play correctly

"Always on" is a function of what you play the files with. The Uebo M400 always plays subtitle track 1, until you turn it off. Their M100, on the other hand, never plays subtitles, until you turn them on. VLC goes by your preferences, but the default is to play the first track of your preferred lang...

Re: DVD subtitle with forced flag

I don't remember seeing DVDs with a "forced only" options on their subtitles - they're generally separate tracks.

Re: Subtitle Removal?

What are you using to play the MKV file? A lot of players (like VLC, most Uebo units, Seagate Theater units) default to showing the first subtitle track in a file. This is USUALLY what is referred to as "forced" subtitles (only text of signs or undubbed language), but a lot of DVDs are mastered with...

Re: movie not finishing

What errors (if any) are displayed? At the very least, you need to turn on debugging while doing the rip. Follow the Troubleshooting FAQ at http://www.makemkv.com/faq/item/8/catid/6 for how to do it, and what to submit. For what it is worth, I was able to rip "a" DVD version of True Grit a few month...

Re: Easy fix for damaged discs

Similar to what I do, but my first level response is Pledge. It works for cleaning and minor scratches. If that doesn't do it, polishing with a mild tooth paste is next.

Haven't had to resort to car wax yet... if the first two don't do it, it's usually because the disk is cracked somewhere.

Re: MI:4 Ghost Protocol Subtitles Question

I was one of the people anxiously (but quietly) awaiting the arrival of PGS support in Handbrake, so I've been doing a LOT of BD re-ripping recently. I have MakeMKV rip "everything" (all audio tracks, all subtitle tracks). With VLC, I switch through the subtitle tracks to find the ones that give me ...

Re: MI:4 Ghost Protocol Subtitles Question

Rip it with all the subtitles, then use VLC to find out which subtitle track is "correct". You can then use Handbrake to ONLY include the "correct" track. If you're doing the BD version, you will need the latest nightly build of Handbrake to handle the PGS subtitle tracks, and you can ONLY burn one ...

Re: Handbrake can't see subtitles from makeMKV?

No need to compile it yourself, the nightly builds have include PGS subtitle support for a week now.

Converting to MP4, you can only burn one subtitle track in, but, if your player supports PGS subtitles in MKV files, you can keep the subtitles in place as tracks by compressing back into an MKV.

Re: MKV Container

The obvious answer is... Where did you tell MakeMKV to put it? If you are using the MakeMKV GUI, there is a box where you put the FILE PATH to save the ripped files to. You can change where it defaults to in the configuration menu, or you can put an arbitrary path in at the time you run it. The "con...

Re: How can I delete the whole queue?

I can only tell you what works in Windows... Click on the first entry you want to delete. Ctrl-Click on the next you want to delete, until you have selected all that you want to delete. Hit the Delete key. If you are doing a range, click on the first, then hold the Shift key down while clicking on t...

Re: How can I delete the whole queue?

Oh, Handbrake.... ;) You can highlight all the entries on the Queue screen, and hit DELETE, and they go away. I've all but stopped using HB's queue, though... I use the GUI to create a minimal queue with the options I need, then have it generate a batch file, and delete everything. Since I'm general...

Re: Windows 7 MKV playback stuttering from a network drive -

If you have administrator privileges on the machine, you can click on the start menu, and type "regedit" in the search bar. Hit enter, and the screen will change color as Windows asks if you REALLY want to do something dangerous, like run regedit. Regedit is a lot like explorer, you can navigate dow...

Re: DVD conversion successful. What to do next?

When you rip with MakeMKV, the result is one or more MKV files, corresponding to the tracks you ripped. You will probably want to name them appropriately, depending upon your settings during the rip. Putting them on a media server is generally just copying them to it. If your player isn't compatible...

Re: mkv files not shown in ps3

This really should be in the "MKV file processing and playback" section, but...

When I search for "playing MKV on PS3", I get a LOT of information on how to CONVERT MKV files to something the PS3 will recognize and play.
