Re: XDG
"dumping files"? You have control over what files are dumped there. Mine has 8 files, the most recent is _private_data_tar, with just 4 being created from running the program in general (when I was doing some data collection).

Re: Error Handling ideas for damaged media
On the assumption that MakeMKV uses LibAV (aka ffmpeg) under the hood (and what else could it possibly use, honestly?) You assume a lot, there. Why would MakeMKV use ffmpeg? In general, it is not displaying video, but ripping data from disks. ffmpeg isn't ripping video from disks, so they aren't tr...

Re: What hinders MakeMKV disk detection?
MakeMKV requires that the drive be detected as an optical disk. A lot of times, a disk is "detected", but isn't FULLY detected. It happens a lot with modern Windows, to "protect" you. Often, a reset will allow proper detection.

Re: Missing/Incorrect DVD Chapters
The answer is... "it depends." This happens more on DVDs than later disks because of space. I've had DVDs that jump between files quite often. When a disk shares lead-in and/or lead-out chapters, the common ones are used, so a 6-segment video has 4 from the main file, plus the lead-in and ...

Re: LG UH12NS30.AVAA10B
Searching for "UH12NS30" here, it indicates this drive was built prior to UHD (as in 2014, two years before UHD was developed). Do you have something that indicates your drive was built later?

Re: Subtitle problem on specific DVD
MakeMKV shows two (potential) subtitle tracks for each ACTUAL subtitle track. One is, "all subtitles listed in track X". The other is, "all subtitles listed in track X that are FLAGGED as forced". If none are flagged as forced, that second track will be deleted. If there are just...

Re: MakeMKV decrypt VOB file
MakeMKV will "make MKV files". It's kind of the name of the program.
If you're looking to just "make a VOB file", that's different.

Re: How to get the non Beta Version of MakeMKV
You can purchase a license at any time. You get a key that doesn't expire. Mine is currently over a dozen years old.
You can also elect to stay with the "free" users. Those expire every 60 days, and sometime you have to play with system date if the author doesn't post the key AS it expires.

Error 'Posix error - Input/output error' occurred while reading '/dev/rdisk5' at offset '19069403136' Always at the SAME point, or "about the same"? Same point usually means a disk error. "About the same" often means the drive shuts down for exceeding its power availability (is ...

Beta version: Do not license it.
Non-beta version: License it.
The difference is whether or not you have to re-apply the beta key every 60 days.

Re: Synology DS1522+ / Vantec NST-536S3-BK compatibility issues?
Are you expecting to be able to use the BD drive on the Synology? While the Synology IS a computer, it isn''t set up like most. It will detect and use hard drives, but read-only media isn't its strength.

Re: MakeMKV cant read a Disk but VLCMediaPlayer can
Possible quick question - does the offset change on subsequent rip attempts?
No change usually indicates a disk issue. Changes (especially larger ones) often mean the drive is not getting sufficient power to go the speed it's attempting to go. Faster speed = more amperage needed.

Re: Pioneer drive and Libra
Possible. But what do you want it to do? It will NOT read UHD disks. It will possibly be able to read out-of-region disks more easily, if you do those.
But your drive is several years older than what UHD.
