If the DVD is a true disk, you can put it into your drive and make an ISO with MakeMKV. The current versions support creating a decrypted ISO backup of DVDs (not of BluRays/UHDs though).

MKV is the only container format of them all that can hold every kind of audio, video and subtitle formats a DVD or BluRay/UHD can have.

Besides, AVI is 32 years old by now, and shouldn't be used anymore.

There are normal BluRay discs that do have Bus Encryption required. Just copying the files from them without having LibreMode active won't end in playable files.

More often than not the message comes on Bootleg DVDs, as in no official disks.

Are these disks still CSS protected? You can see that when you open MakeMKV and just insert the DVD. Then you will see that information on the top left (I think).

No protection = eventually a bootleg.

And what do you want to do with the files then? Because if you just want to make MKV files out of them, you can just use MKVToolNix.

I don't think they can reliably be used to determine track order. Sometimes they can. On a TV show I recently ripped, there was A 1 to 5, B 1 to 5 and C 1 to 4.
