you can but do not update the firmware only use the performance utility
this is also built in to makemkv if you look up makemkv speed control

Tried cleaning. Any other ideas? I can try getting a replacement from Amazon if need be, but I wanted to see anything else could cause this kind of error.

2 thing this could be

1. this is a unflashed UHD drive on a UHD disc.

2. Your drive has seen a newer aacs version and now can't rip anything untill makemkv has its aacs updated

Saw that Amazon had a S13U in the 'amazon renewed' section and gave it a go as it was discounted and had a chance of being a drive with older firmware.. Annnnd it wasn't. 1.04 Dec 12 2022. So if you see a Pioneer on Amazon, even the returns, it is probably best to assume it has the bad firmware and...

You imagine shows it a reg bdrom not UHD so your puting the wrong disc in or you got ripped off on the disc.

I got this drive and I think I found a firmware version that I think will work. (HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin) Can somebody tell me if this will work or not because I do not want to have a broken drive on my hands.
