Re: Possible to rip UHD discs as SDR?

I want to make backups of my collection and also have files I can easily watch when I don’t have internet. For this use case I’m fine with 1080p and even some compression via handbrake. For my UHD films that came with standard Blu Ray copies I’m just going to rip those. But I have a few box sets (I...

QUESTION: How about an external UHD Blu-ray drive to rip HDR and Dolby Vision Blu-rays from?
Same drives in a Vantec enclosure or Archgon BU40N. Other options are: BP60NB10, WP/BP50NB40 cross-flashed to BU40N or BP60NB10 firmware.

Re: recommendation for 9.5mm blu ray drive

hey folks, i'm trying to add blu ray playback to some family laptops. is it better to get a blu ray burner instead of a reader, and if so, what would you recommend? 9.5mm for reference. Thanks. LG BU40N or Pioneer BDR-UD04. Both are 9.5mm. The LG is the preferred model and can easily be made UHD ri...

Re: PIONEER BDR-BDS7S not reading UHD disks

I recently purchased a Pioneer BDR-BDS7S drive to read UHD BluRays. The drive was listed as being libredrive compatible on the "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2023" and I made sure to get one with an older firmware. However, whenever I insert a UHD disc into the drive, it spin...

Just wondering what the benefit of upgading the BP50NB40 from the BP50NB40-NB50-1.03MK to BP60NB10 1.02MK would be?

Does it essentially make the BP50NB40 perform as a BP60NB10?
Correct. Therefore it can be used to rip UHD.

Re: Cannot get Dolby Vision

This is what MediaInfo version 21.09 shows me for my 4K rip of Dune (2021) . HDR format : Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.07.06, BL+EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible So your file has DV. Unfortunately, for now anyway, most players do not play DV in a MKV file. Most people...
