Re: Forced Subtitles with Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2

If I recall correctly these had a non-standard palette, i.e. the transparent colour wasn't palette code 0. What I've done with these movies is to extract the subs with eac3to and then load them into bpsup2sub. Set the output format to PGS so you're converting from PGS to PGS and export the subs agai...

Re: Preview subtitles?

+1 for bdsup2sub. If I'm not sure which subtitles I need then I rip them all, extract them all in one command with eac3to and then load them into bdsup2sub to work out which ones I did/didn't need. Then I can go back to MakeMKV if I still have it open and deselect the ones I don't want and rip again...

Re: ROKU 3: MKV from BD works, MKV from DVD Does Not!!

Handbrake then. You can choose a quality profile that will have no (effective) generational loss as you can give it enough bandwidth to be able to encode the MPEG2 blockiness that is already inherent in the files. It's not the ideal solution but it's a relatively straightforward way to be able to ge...

Re: ROKU 3: MKV from BD works, MKV from DVD Does Not!!

You could also use something like Handbrake to convert the MPEG2 stream inside the MKV file into something like H.264. It'll still be an MKV but it'll use a codec that the Roku can play.

You will get a generational loss through the conversion though.

Re: Black Hawk Down is split into 2 titles...

Weird. I have both the DVD and the Blu-ray of Black Hawk Down and both ripped with no problems. As one title and with chapters. Clearly there's more than one version or you've found a new bug in MakeMKV.

Re: Black Hawk Down is split into 2 titles...

Renumber the chapters in the second file before the merge and they'll come through intact. It doesn't create duplicate chapter names, which is the problem you're seeing

Re: "Empty" subtitles?

This ties in with what I've found. I've always had to use eac3to to extract the subtitles direct from the original EVO files in order to be able to process them with bdsup2sub. Once they're in a MakeMKV-produced MKV file they're no use. Fortunately I've ripped all of my HD-DVDs so it's not a big iss...

Re: VobSub

Popcorn Hours support both VOBSUB and PGS subtitles natively in MKV files, so I don't know what your problem is.

I have hundreds of titles with subtitles in them, in bothh VOBSUB and PGS format, depending on whether they were sourced from DVD or Blu-ray.

Re: Bug/Request - Auto chapter naming should start at 01, no

I've ripped hundreds of Blu-rays and I can say that, without exception, they always begin at Chapter 00, whereas DVDs always begin at Chapter 01. So even if there is the odd case that breaks the rules, how come DVDs work fine whereas Blu-rays don't? It's inconsistent, and quite annoying. I have to g...

No, but mkvtoolnix can split at chapters very easily afterwards and it's free.

Re: output wont play properly.

Interlaced VC-1 is a problem for a lot of players. It's nothing to do with MakeMKV, just with how the video is encoded as it was originally targeted for broadcast.

Re: Unencrypted Blu-Ray iso, why must makemkv fail?

That's how I rip 95% of my discs to MKV. It works fine for me, and I use the same tool to remove the protection and create the initial ISO for backup purposes.

The first few lines tell you what the problem is. You need to download the new version.

Add one to mark whether a track is forced as well as these and that'll be really useful.
