Re: Makemkv and networked optical drives

I have installed a bluray drive into my server. Mapped network drive so its controllable/accessible from main computer.
However, I am unable to select this drive through 'Source' on makemkv ran from main computer. Only local drive is selectable.

Makemkv and networked optical drives

Is this possible or do you have to launch makemkv from the computer that has the Blu-ray drive physically attached?

Probably been asked a gazillion times before, apologies

Re: Forced subtitle editor

No, it doesn't. So the example is its an English language film but someone is speaking French or Vulcan or what have you riefly or a few times in the movie, or there's a road sign in a foreign language and a forced subtitle in English appears. Gosh, you play the movie and wait for the first scene w...

Re: Why do subtitle tracks sometimes not match up with discs

Rip movie with all subs checked.

Verify each subtitle track using VLC.

Open the mkv you've created in makemkv. Enable/disable/set default for the tracks available and re-rip.

Re: Ultra HD Bluray

Would a theoretical UHD makemkv rip be playable on a 1080p screen? I'f you're asking whether your 1080p TV will be able to read HEVC-encoded content from e.g. a USB drive plugged into one of the available ports, then the answer is most likely no (maybe very new TVs that have just been released, but...

Re: Forced Subtitles from MKV file

It is actually VERY RARE in my experience to find a title that has a subtitle track that uses the "forced" flag. And believe me, over 95% of what I buy is non-English stuff with subtitles. You can tell MakeMKV to create a "forced only" track for each subtitle track found, but yo...

Re: Anyone here have the Pioneer BDR-209D?

Some drives have what is called "ripstop" limits in their firmware, that prevent them from ripping at faster than 2x speed. There are sites that offer replacement firmware to remove the limitation. I am not sure if Pioneer is one of the companies that includes this "feature". I ...

The file created by makemkv will be 100% lossless. I have no experience of dvdfab so can't comment on that.

Re: does the TV series Lost have forced subtitles

You're right there isn't but I actually like to watch my content rather than concentrating on the bottom of the screen on where the subs should show up, but each to their own! To each their own what? I simply corrected your incorrect statement that identifying the proper sub would be tricky/time co...

Re: does the TV series Lost have forced subtitles

What's tricky about playing a track from the beginning and not seeing a subtitle while someone's talking? Obviously that is the forced sub and there's no need to find the exact spot with the first item. You're right there isn't but I actually like to watch my content rather than concentrating on th...

Re: does the TV series Lost have forced subtitles

There is now way around it. Rip once with all subs, identify correct stream (tricky and time-consuming if you don't know at what point the forced subs are meant to appear), then rip again removing any unwanted subs whilst applying the correct flag to the forced sub stream.

The Mummy and TextST subtitles

So using 1.9.1 I now have an mkv with TextST subs. I take it these are the forced subs?

Is their a player out there that will read them?

Vlc is a no, as is Kodi :/
