Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

So are we saying there is now reasonable hope (expectation) that an htpc could be used within a few months?

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

Confused here. No expert at all but wondering why when I rip a disc makemkv shows the DV info at that time. If I then open that file within makemkv it doesn't show those layers. Is that a bug or am I missing something? Screenshots https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DrrKTzRmUzThOnEMr_jIsvJf4dPaAyQj/vie...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

So, before I do it, I can now "rip" DV mkvs from my previous full folder backups and then delete the folder backups if my future hope is to only have DV/atmos?

Perhaps you'd be interested in the DTS-HD Master Audio format (DTS-HD MA == TrueHD). It's not freeware but, for "testing purpose" , it could be totally free.
That would be just fine, actually. What would that option be?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Just a lurker here just paying attention to see if this ever really works fully. Sorry to ask a quick hijacking question but I wonder if it might be answered by what is necessary in the efforts of those trying to figure this out: Is it possible with freeware (or cheapware) to convert lpcm (actually ...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

hey you don't have a fire tv stick 4k by chance do you? :) I have firestick 4k attached to an LG C9 if you want me to try a test file sometime. whoa cool, my new TV arrives Friday so I'm in between testing right now. I've read that the new emby beta app for it will do single layer dvhe.05.06 with 7...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Hi yes, all the mp4 trigger DV and play fine with 7.1 lpcm on the TV and x700 player. my setup is: Sony X700 -----> Denon X3200W ------> LG OLED C8 ok cool thx! m2ts and mkv only play in HDR because there's nothing yet to author DV in these containers. I think the best solution would be in a .TS co...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Anyone have any idea if the newer lg c9 with HDMI 2.1 and eARC would be able to play full DV disc rips via USB or Ethernet and then output (via eARC) lossless audio to a receiver? I ask because I just ordered a c8 on sale but would cancel it if the above was a maybe. You'll only get HDR10 if you tr...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

It does have eARC so that's a definite maybe. You, of course, also need a receiver that can support it. But I don't know if their LG player supports doing so. Didn't even think of the receiver needing to support eARC. Was just thinking of it handling lossless codecs. Good point. Guess that would be...

the x700 is just a quick cheap fix to play dv mp4s. it won't play full rips in dv, only hdr10. Oppo and its clones are the only external devices that will play full rips in dv properly.
That is lame. I would want the full rip quality. Oppo or clone it is I guess. Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

My TV is a Roku TV and Plex doesn't natively support the DVHE but will play if you force it to. When trying to seek forward or backward though always results in the file starting from the beginning no matter where your at. I haven't tried using the USB media player. Ah I see. Yea every model has th...
