Re: Keeping Blu-ray files?!?
I was thinking it has to be better resolution since the file is so much bigger Not resolution, but quality. They're big because there's more information describing each frame in those files than there is when you convert them. Whether you can see the difference is something you'll have to test and ...

Re: Keep DTS-HD MA Only?
Thanks for the reply.... Since ATV 4K and iPhone do not decode DTS at all you will always be hearing the results of a transcode, yes? Yes, of course there will still be devices that can't decode even the lesser track, but if it's something like a phone then honestly at that point I don't really car...

Re: Keep DTS-HD MA Only?
In the end, it's completely up to you, there's no "officially correct" way, but... personally, I'm always ripping two tracks - the highest quality and the second-highest so based on your example, that would be "DTS-HD MA" and "DTS". Why? I generally prefer using a "...

Re: Looking to buy a "ready" out of the box ripper
I am buying 2 8GB Western Digital Drives in a bay. The thought is to load all our blu ray movies (as well as photos and songs) on them I hope that's a typo and you mean two 8 TB drives, not 8 GB because one single Blu-ray movie (not 4K) requires 20-30GB. If you want to sacrifice their quality, you ...

Re: Some Discs Fail to Rip Half Way Through
no physical damage on discs What made you sure about this? Did you use a microscope to check the entire surface of the disc? Especially if those were 3-layered discs, the damage can be really small and it will be enough for the drive to fail to read it. Based on what you describe it sounds exactly ...

Re: asus bw-16d1ht SUCCESS because of you lot.
I'm glad all the info here helped you, enjoy the world of high quality media stripped of all the ads and FBI threats ;) Next challenge is to try a UHD Blu-Ray, although I don't suspect this will be a problem Well... I don't want to sound negative so I'll just say this - I hope all your 3-layered dis...

Re: WH16NS40 and WH14NS40
While I can't say if "Lucy" is a known bad release, I can definitely confirm that this is a possibility and something that happened to me with "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" - I bought 3 different copies of it, a UK, Australian and German release. Both the UK and Australian wi...

Re: Crossflashing Legal or Illegal?
If you want my whole story, check out this thread: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19726 Short version, I now own 3 copies of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire", the only one I could rip was the one slightly lower quality release that's on a 2-layered disc. The other two relea...

Re: Crossflashing Legal or Illegal?
Why remove functionality that your own product supports deliberately? Pressure from Film Industry and their associated cronies (...) It could be much simpler - it just doesn't work reliably and they don't want to sell you something that doesn't work. I mean if you saw an ad on the box saying "...

Re: ASUS BW-16D1HT Reliability?
You're saying you're happy it came with the UHD friendly firmware, but please note that you can flash a friendly firmware to it even if it came with one that's not friendly. With the official ASUS flasher posted here https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18933 it's super easy and 10...

Re: Can a UHD disc kill a drive?
Can you say specifically what firmware you used to flash the ASUS? Originally I've been using the MK 3.10 firmware and after the drive crapped out, I downgraded to 3.02, but not the MK release, I used the DE version instead, that is - DE_ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.02.bin from this pack: https://www.mediafire...

Re: Stand By Me 4k aacs 2.1/c v70
I don't know if there's anything we can do to help, but if there is... As Mike said: Simplified, imagine a single frame from a the same scene encoded slightly differently - a house with a red roof on one frame and a green roof on another. Per rather complex AACS 2.1 crypto you can only get a key to...

Re: "automatic sdf downloading is disabled or failed" while decrypting
I still can't access the HK site. It's been more than 3 days now so even my local ISP's DNS should get the memo, but I also double-checked the Google DNS settings. According to http://www.whatsmydnsserver.com/ I was still on my ISP's DNS even though I've set up Google on the router so I've then set ...
