MakeMKV only removes AACS while DVDfab also removes Java Protections like BD-J, Region Lock and so on.

Re: Lessons learned from backing up hundreds of discs
Also one has to consider the data density on such a disc.
The disc is always the same size, but for a DVD there's only 4.7/8.5 GB of data on it. But for a BluRay it's at least (up to) five times more. So one scratch has to be considered a much bigger problem for all data "below".

Re: Lessons learned from backing up hundreds of discs
We need an AccurateRip database for DVDs. There's a thread on DBPowerAmp suggesting the same https://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?46945-AccurateRip-Database-for-DVD-BR thing, but the replies are that it's not necessary. Clearly this is not correct. Too bad, http://redump.org/ only accepts du...

MakeMKV only removes AACS encryption. No region lock, no BDplus, no BD-J protection etc.
DVDfab Passkey helped for me with such problems. When rightclicking onto the tray icon there's a point for fixing BluRays. That might help you there.

Re: asus bw-16d1h-u pro downgrade??
More often than not manufacturers give out new firmwares to make drives (more) unfriendly at all.
What is the drive information MakeMKV lists on the right side when you start the program?

Re: Have problem playing backed up movie
Maybe your VLC doesn't work because it needs Java 1.8 for many BluRays. Then again it should still work, but only playing back the main movie itself.
MakeMKV only removes AACS, no BD+, no Region Lock or other BDJ-features.

Re: How to keep chapters when ripping my DVD's and Blu-ray's????
For some odd reason no matter what I do I am not able to keep the movie chapters. What Am I doing wrong? Dave B How do you work with MakeMKV? Do you make a decrypted backup and then use the m2ts files or do you let MakeMKV create MKV files? M2TS files do not have meta information like chapters or a...

This is not the drive, but the case around the drive. What does MakeMKV list on the right side about the drive and its capabilities?

Re: Question on ripping to BDMV
A standard BluRay has no avchd files. It seems like there are explicit AVCHD Discs, which share some similarities with BluRays, but not all: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD#Overview Yesterday I got Howard the Duck on BluRay for example, and it looks like this (directly from the original BluRay):...

Re: Decrypting encrypted backup w/discatt.dat - volume key unknown
The UHDs very probably have Bus Encryption active as well. So as long as this is there, just copying the files from the disc won't end in any useful information I'm afraid. To disable the Bus Encryption, open the UHD in MakeMKV (e.g. until you can select, which tracks you want to extract) and just k...

Re: Weird behavior ripping DVD "2010 The Year We Make Contact"
At the readspeed did there by chance was "RipGuard" added after the speed? Seval DVDs I possess have the RipGuard protection, this is, unreadable sectors. And some are placed in the first thousand sectors. With my DVDs MakeMKV also got really slow there, because it skips sector after secto...
