Re: How to make the output filesize for a BR smaller
Makemkv does not modify the audio or video streams in any way... so your rips will continue to be large. To reduce their size, try HandBrake. It has presets that will allow you to reduce the size on disk of your movie files with little or no noticeable degradation in quality. I have found that the &...

Re: Question concerning opinion on quality vs size.
First, a quick comment about your method. If your only purpose in ripping is to put the movie on a media PC or Plex server or whatever, then there's no need to do a full-disc backup and search for the appropriate m2ts file. Just rip the appropriate track to an MKV file, and use handbrake from there....

Unmodified from the way it shipped.joe42 wrote:Did you need to patch the WH14NS40 firmware to remove riplock? Or did the drive ship without riplock? (With the speeds you mentioned, riplock is either disabled or not present)

Re: Pioneer BDR-206DBK Optical Drive - Anyone else use it?
Followup to my December 2011 comment. About a month ago I began having problems with the Pioneer drive. It was still under warranty, so I sent it to the original vendor for testing/replacement. This process was going to take a while, so in the mean time I bought an LG 14X Blu-ray burner (model WH14N...

Re: How to tell which title is which episode of TV series?
Unfortunately there is no way to map this for sure. It depends entirely on how the disc was mastered, and sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to it. The first title might be episode 3, because that was the first title added to the disc during the mastering process. It doesn't matter what order they...

Re: DASPI
The DASPI install package is included in the DMG with MakeMKV when you download it. You install MakeMKV by dragging it to your Applications folder. You install DASPI separately by double-clicking the DASPI install package. It will guide you through the steps to install DASPI.

Re: Converting DVD files to MKV
I think you misunderstand my question. My point is that compression does not have to be lossy, I used the audio comparison of Flac and APE as examples that are absolutely bit perfect and they can reduce the file size by 40-50%. You can reproduce the original CD from a Flac or APE file. I am only su...

Re: File Size?
You want Handbrake. Download the latest nightly build, and use the iPad preset. It will reduce your DVD-sourced movie files to around 1 - 1.5 GB with no appreciable loss of quality, and your Blu-sourced movie files to around 2 - 5 GB. Saves tons of disc space and is much easier on your home network ...

http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/titanium/copy.html Copy CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray Discs with one click. Copy Mac OS, Toast, and other disc image formats. Mount disc images directly from Finder. I had seen that link before, but it was not helpful. It explains that discs may be copied, but the ac...

Re: MAC: OK to create a backup disc, but how to create MKV f
You're using the full disc backup option, which will not produce MKV files. You're clicking the wrong button in the user interface. You'll want to click the big rectangular button instead of the little "backup disc" button. Once makemkv processes the disc, you will see the yellow triangles...

Re: Burn Blu-ray full disc backup on Mac?
Didn't see your snarky reply previously... I did search quite thoroughly before posting my question. If you don't have a useful answer, posting a link to a Google search is not helpful. Many of the links turned up in a Google search recommend Toast. However, Toast does not do what I want to do. It w...

Re: Pioneer BDR-206DBK Optical Drive - Anyone else use it?
I'm using the same drive, with 1.05 firmware. It works fine, and is not limited to 2X read rate. I've been using it for months this way. Had I not read about your issues with it, I would have recommended it to anybody. Fast, reliable.
