Re: MakeMKV suggested hardware and process questions

Many newer BD drives are riplocked, that is they'll limit the BD-ROM read speed to 2x on hardware level. So instead of 20 minutes ripping it can take 1 hour per disc.

Don't know if newer LG drives are riplocked or not. Older ones aren't. Most Pioneer are locked.

I'm using LG WH14NS40.

Re: 3D Bluray

XBMC cannot and will not in foreseeable future open 3D MVC format used in 3D Blu-ray. With hardware decoding it can, at least on proper NVIDIA cards. Actually opening up MVC and display in 3D? Or do you mean simply opening the AVC stream and ignore MVC stream? Like how 2D Blu-ray player would handl...

Re: Person of Interest - Season 1 on BR

I have ripped Season 1 and Season 2 of Person of Interest. Yes there are two listings per episode.

The video itself is the same, but one listing has English/Spanish/French while the other only has English/Japanese.

Re: Is 24p possible?

Frame rate itself should have nothing to do with picture quality. They only affect how smooth the motion is from the video. Now, just like different video encoders can yield different quality even when dealing with same video codec, the reverse is also true for video decoding. Different Blu-ray play...

Re: 3D MVC Option

It's just that 3D still remains as a niche market. Until more people starts to demand it, software support will remain slow.

Re: Conversion to Apple Lossless?

I believe you can mux ALAC into MKV, but some players will fail to demux ALAC during playback.

Best to manually convert FLAC into ALAC. I'm not sure it is a good idea to include Apples' code into MakeMKV.

Re: 3D Bluray

The best you can do is putting together an Avisynth script to re-encode the movie into H-SBS/H-TAB. MakeMKV is a ripper. It will NEVER re-encode the video.

Re: Is 24p possible?

I think he/she meant 24 (23.976) progressive frames per seconds.

MakeMKV does not re-encode the video. It makes no changes to the video other than decrypting and copying it to your hard drive.

You will have to configure your PC to output 23.976 fps.

Re: Audio issue whilst playing MKV's using MPC-HC

madvr is graphics renderer. It should have nothing to do with audio. Have you tried using Reclock + WASPI to give exclusive control of audio ouput to MPC-HC? Any audio interruption during playback will drop receiver out from bitstream, unless you are in WASPI mode. Or you can just convert them into ...

Re: 3D MVC Option

For a TV to automatically switch into 3D mode, it must be informed that the input is 3D via EDID handshake. XBMC does not have control over EDID handshake. PS3 games (not Blu-ray 3D, as I cannot attest to it) uses H-TAB in 3D gameplay. TV will automatically switch into 3D because PS3 will do a EDID ...

Re: AW: 3D MVC Option

I think, it's the same as with the mede8er: naming file <anything>.TB.mkv or <something>.SBS.mkv will trigger 3d decoding and detect mvc automatically. In mede8er tbhere is no filenaming for mvc MKV as well, but it will actually decode 3d mvc MKV if the filernaming is for TB or SBS 3d MKV... Right....

Re: 3D MVC Option

sapstar That really doesn't make sense. Full HD 3D (FHD3D), which is what most 3D Bluray player will output when decoding MVC, has pixel resolution of 1920 x 2205. This isn't the like H-SBS or H-TAB where pixel resolution is still 1920 x 1080. It sounds like you are telling your digital player to de...

Feature Suggestion: Segment selection

I suggest that MakeMKV allows one to pick segment within a specific title. I'm trying to rip my own copy of Star Trek Next Generation, Season 1, Disc 1. Two titles that share the same segment failed to ripped. I suspect that shared segment is either the opening or credit. Saving 2 titles into direct...
