Hi, try playing back with mplayer instead. VLC is known to suck with mkv.

Re: Subtitles and forced subtitles
Hi, you can use mkvextract (part of official MKVtoolnix) to extract the sup file. Free open source, and cross platform. I believe there is also a gui for windows. http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/ *no need to use the payware crap from above... which has stolen its code from ffmpeg and mkv...

Re: Compression
Hi, compression inherently takes a long time and handbrake is one of the more "noob friendly" GUI's available (All free tools are based on the same set of tools. x264 and ffmpeg). You can make handbrake go very fast though. But if you want good compression at reasonable file sizes: 1.) res...

You cant just say "it doesnt work" and expect us to figure out whats wrong!
btw /usr/bin/ should be included in your $PATH, so you can just call makemkv from anywhere.

Re: MakeMKV to NMT
I have a NMT!
The main movie is made from a playlist which may contain alternate scenes. MakeMKV puts alternate scenes in a separate mkv file.

Re: Direct video streaming
No, PS3 will not play mkv natively. It will play m2ts which is what makemkv exposes in the streaming feature.

Re: makemkv doesnt work - kubuntu 10.10
Hi, yes it appears to be a bug. Weather it is with makemkv, or with the kubuntu provided Qt library files I do not know. My only advice is to:
1.) update system
2.) ask in ubuntu forums, or in their IRC channel
3.) wait for mike to respond.
