Re: Subtitles for the WD and Seagate players--How??

Tony I have the 1st generation WD HDTV player for USB. There's only 2 ways I can be sure to see subs with .mkv or .m2ts files. 1) burn them into the video or 2) convert to .srt and include the file with the video file with the same base filename. Often I can play .srt subs that are a stream in an .m...

Re: Converting Blu-ray PGS subtitles

I take a bit different approach to getting .srt subs. However you get the demuxed .sup file from the .mkv, via mkvtoolnix or whatever, the next step is load into BDSup2Sub. Now check the box to downsize the resolution to 720x480 and save as ifo/sup. Load the .sup and .ifo files in DVDSubEdit. Run to...

it asked me to register to get full functionality.... ... or start evaluation. Evaluation will not expire while the program is in beta. But you have a chance to show your support and register the current version if you like - your registartion key will be valid forever. I took the plunge. Please ke...

Re: Player that will play DVD & BR-DVD from hard drive?

You can take a look at WD HDTV player for USB drives. I expect with USB 3.0 devices coming out that they will be updated to USB 3.0 soon. I have the first version and it plays .m2ts files and HD avi/divx pretty well. If you have an .mkv file you might consider converting to .m2ts first, esp. if it's...

Re: Subtitles Issue > What Player Will Show Them?

If you don't have any compiler set up you can try a VLC nightly build: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/ I just tried today's win32 build. I noticed I could advance the slider of an .mkv file without it crashing. I don't have an .mkv with a pgs sub handy at the moment to try that though. http://w...

Re: Subtitles - List Out Track #?

I'm a nube so just to make sure I get the picture(pun intended) the strategy for forced subs would be check both the Eng. Sub stream, and the sub option Only Forced Subs. Then if I end up with 2 Eng Sub streams I know the small one is forced subs. If I only end up with 1 stream then I need to encode...

Re: List of BluRay with forced subtitles

Yeah, it would be great if authors of blu-ray format thought about it but they didn't. The forced flag is encoded with picture header so if you have an hour-long movie and only last subtitle is forced there is no way to tell until you read from disc 60 minutes of video. Ah, that answers my question...

Registration/License/Install details?

I like MakeMKV. For this type of app I think the one-time registration scheme is a good deal. I don't expect you to give away any copy protection secrets but I'm wondering if you can give some details about installs etc.. As an example I purchased DVD Rebuilder which contacts its online database whe...

Re: Converting Blu-ray PGS subtitles

@setarip_old thanks for the info and pointers. Most of the films I watch are Asian with English subs. Between that and forced subs I have a lot to learn. Most of the time conversions or whatnot are relatively easy until you have to take the subs into account. The dreaded fly in the ointment in most ...

Re: Converting Blu-ray PGS subtitles

I have the 30 day trial version but I didn't see any setting for only forced subtitles. I pretty much have it down now afa extracting PGS subs and using BDSup2Sub. (Btw for those who hate doing manual OCR if you reduce the resolution of the .sup subtitles to standard DVD(720x480 for NTSC) and export...
