#22 describes the sequence of events when MakeMKV does its thing (assuming nothing is blocking access). Whether 'hkdatastore.tk' is still the target domain, or if a new one is downloaded, I do not know. I still see this after flushing my DNS cache:
>nslookup hkdatastore.tk
Server: resolver1.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.222
*** resolver1.opendns.com can't find hkdatastore.tk: Non-existent domain
As in my case, your specified DNS server may still not have updated it's records, which (as also mentioned previously) can take up to 24 hrs. Try a different DNS server, or wait & try again later.

Unfortunately, even Google is balking at resolving the domain at this point:
HEADER:
opcode = QUERY, id = 63904, rcode = NAME_ERR
header flags: reply, want recursion, recursion avail.
questions = 1, answers = 0, auth. records = 1, additional = 0
QUESTIONS:
hkdatastore.tk., type = XX, class = 1
AUTHORITY RECORDS:
-> tk.
type = SOA, class = 1, ttl = 4, dlen = 48
nameserver = a.ns.tk.
mailaddress = joost.zuurbier.dot.tk.
serial number= 1570371456, refresh = 10800, retry = 3600,
expire = 604800, minimum = 5.

Did some searching/reading on the .tk domain one thing that jumped out were reports of 'popular' domains being sold out from under registrants. I understand the obvious motivation for choosing such domains, but they come with inherent risks... if that has anything, at all, to do with the current problem?

Refreshed my DNS server and changed to Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and it seems to work for now.
Successfully did "Black Hawk Down" and currently "Valerian".

It's been 48 hours already and it still doesn't work for me, even via Google's DNS

After flushing PC & router DNS caches, I still see:
nslookup hkdatastore.tk
Server: resolver1.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.222
*** resolver1.opendns.com can't find hkdatastore.tk: Non-existent domain
Cycling through the available public DNS options here:
https://dnslookup.online/
SOME public servers show a record, but since most don't, I'm just gonna keep waiting.

I still can't access the HK site. It's been more than 3 days now so even my local ISP's DNS should get the memo, but I also double-checked the Google DNS settings.
According to
http://www.whatsmydnsserver.com/ I was still on my ISP's DNS even though I've set up Google on the router so I've then set it up via Windows both for IPv4 and IPv6 (2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844), confirmed that my DNS is now Google in both cases... still can't find hkdatastore.tk.
Is this file:
https://www.makemkv.com/svq/sdf.bin kept up-to-date? So we could at least try to set it up manually - apparently putting it into the `.MakeMKV` directory should have done the trick, if it's up to date...?
---EDIT---
Forget it, it works now for me! So it really was a matter of setting up Google's DNS for IPv6, not just IPv4. Strangely, I still can't access the hkdatastore site through a browser or ping it as it still won't resolve, but MakeMKV successfully managed to access it today.

Well that was fun. I read through this several times and wasn't sure what the official fix was. Manually downloaded the file and watched the app ingest the file, same error. flushed DNS on my Mac and router, same error. Manually changed my DNS servers on my Mac and rebooted - no error so I assume this is the fix.
Is this something that will get fixed in an upcoming release? Changing DNS servers is only a workaround and not a fix. Just glad it's working now as I have 5 UHD's to rip.

Just wanted to reply here to add my experience for anyone else having issues.
I tried ripping a 4K Blu-Ray of Toy Story 4 tonight on my Windows PC when I started having issues with "Automatic SDF downloading is disabled or failed" messages. This is despite the fact that I had used MakeMKV many times before without any issue. I tried downloading the .bin file manually and installing it, but the issue persisted. There was no reason I could see why the program wouldn't be able to download what it needed.
What solved the issue for me was changing my PC's DNS using the instructions on this page:
https://www.windowscentral.com/how-chan ... _windows10. I changed it to the Google DNS. After making this change and restarting my computer, MakeMKV now works just fine again. I hope this helps someone.

This is still not fixed. I've checked my firewall settings. Downloaded the sqv.bin file manually.
I think we're all screwed until the hkdatastore site comes back.
