@Vidmo

Hi!
The root cause was a setting in Windows 7 that will throttle network performance when multimedia was being played.
May I ask how you came upon this solution?

A lot of trial and error and months of testing, reading and researching.

my issue is with mkv from a local drive.
I was hoping to stick with tmt3 as getting audio passthrough to spdif was a headache and I can't be bothered with another program. I was initially supprised how hard it was to get windows 7 media center to work as a media center. Playing blu-ray's,mkv's, a decent video library are all missing.

That's exactly why I use j river mc17. It does all that and much more.

I see 4 possibilities for this error.

First, TMT... you should try something else.. like MPC-HC.

Second, if you play it on the network, you can't play 33.6Mbps on a 100mbps networks (same with external drive).
The proplem appear over 20mbps or 13-14mb/s.
I recommend reencode it with handbrake at 15000 kbps.

Third, if you play it directly on your PC... the videocard is REALLY important.
I had a ATi 4770 and the card couldn't support 1080p bluray.
I upgrade to an Nvidia card... no problem since.

Forth, the CPU.. but I supose you have at least a dual core.

You can't play mkv with media center (with more than one audiotrack).

If it's WORK with many audiotrack... it's probably because you have installed the weird divx codec for MKV format.
This cause downgrade quality.. with weird side effect.
You should uninstall it.

If you want make it works great... reencode with handbrake (x264) 15000kbps in mp4 format with one audiotrack. (this will works everywhere).
