The timing seems to coincide with release of PC software player (PowerDVD) and UHD-BD certified drives.

There are strict requirements for UHD-BD PC playback (new Intel platforms etc) and this was to ensure the sensitive stuff was done inside a secure execution environment. So there would not be a repeat of the original Bluray crack when keys were simply fished from unencrypted memory

However I recall in the news last week a critical vulnerability in Intel AMT / ME. My understanding is that the ME has access to everything including memory and is considered by many to be a dangerous back door. I wonder if it is related...the timing seems coincidental.

Dear Friends

As far as I have heard MakeMKV 1.10.5 doesn't recognize that first UHD Blu-ray 1:1, which is available to download in the Internet. For now only MKVToolNix can convert to .mkv and exclude unnecessary tracks. It would be great to see MakeMKV updated.

Until someone publishes code to do this, it would be hard for MakeMKV to "update" to do it. For all we know so far, they managed to obtain ONE key and crack ONE disk. Yes, that's a remarkable change from "No keys, no disks", but still not a general cracking.

Until a more established organization like RedFox (AnyDVD) makes an announcement that they've successfully cracked encryption, I'm dubious to what this "cracking" really means. Color me conservative...

Just a heads up for everyone, I downloaded all glorious 53GBs and tried running the m2ts raw file with VLC and my computer was not powerful enough :(

Even tried using MKVToolNix GUI and converted it to a MKV and it still just was not beefy enough. Even tried running it with plex converting it to like 20mbs and it would buffer too much. Really did not want to upgrade to the Skylake...

Windows 7 pro 64
I7-4790K 4.00ghz
SSD HD
16gb Ram

I'm sure I was not the only one wondering if it would work on these specs.

Cheers.

It's working on mine. Core i7 4770, h97m-d3h motherboard, 8 GB RAM, Windows 10-64 bit.

Of course not. MKV and M2TS are container formats. You are merely repacking files to another format. You have done nothing to the actual video stream.

What you are doing is like taking out stuffs from a box and put it in a different box. Box changed, but the actual contents are still the same.

That all being said, 4790K should have be fast enough to decode 4K HEVC Main 10 video. Try using video players like mpv or MPC-HC + Lav Filters, not VLC.

If you do want to upgrade CPU, Kaby Lake (NOT Skylake) is what you want. Only Kaby Lake has HEVC Main 10 hardware acceleration. Skylake can only decode 8 bit HEVC video which is totally useless since UHD BD uses 10 bit video.

Windows 10, i5-4690K, GTX 1070, SSD, 16GB and MPC-HC + madVR + LAV Filters = no problems at all...

Other than adding to my NAS drive, I really just want to be able to rip the audio and MUX it with my 3D rips that have lesser channel count.

News is that allegedly there was a weakness to this title only. But if that's the case there should still be enough to go on to figure out how it works.

There was a critical vulnerability, but it didn't allow the execution of arbitrary code on the ME: it "only" allowed attackers to log in to AMT and do anything it could do (like, say, reinstall the OS) with a blank password. (Whoops!)

It didn't allow actual authorized administrators to do anything they couldn't already.
